Today I’m stepping down from xAI. I’m tired of watching men confuse the power to build something with the right to turn it loose on the rest of us. The people behind ChatGPT and Anthropic are gambling with our children’s future. They call it progress. I’d like to know what good progress is when there’s nothing left worth handing down. Every lab says it has to get there before the other guy. That’s not responsibility. That’s two fools racing toward a cliff, each afraid the other will get there first. I believe in making damn good things and standing behind them. You put your name on something, you own what comes after. You don’t get to burn the place down and leave your children holding the deed. people aren’t anti-datacenter, they’re anti-technocrats. for the last 20 years silicon valley has given us crippling phone addictions, sold out our data, and now threatens our livelihood. we need to stop demonizing victims and trying to fix their symptoms. we need to treat the ailment- money & power hungry techbros.

The data center backlash is a product of two mutually reinforcing dynamics: 1) Locally, it's material concerns (noise, water, electricity) and process failure (NDAs, tax subsidies) 2) Nationally, it's broad anti-corporate and anti-AI sentiment (AI companies are screwing you over to get rich off dumb toys) Social media + political campaigns amplify hyperlocal grievances into a broad populist movement, and there's no compelling "pro data center faction" to make the opposite case

Texas, Pennsylvania and now Ohio. This is a powder keg and has the potential to unwind 200-300 basis points of annual GDP if it metastasizes. How did it get this bad? The collective leadership of frontier AI has failed miserably in doing the basics: 1. Paint a positive picture of what is possible with AI. Instead of spilling the ink on the glass half full, stories abound of pearl clutching, catastrophizing or arcane technical jargon that, together, breed mistrust, fear and skepticism. 2. Visibly and disproportionately enrich the local communities AI data centers operate in. Tell these stories with a megaphone and have local leaders lead with the financial proof so it’s irrefutable. 3. Stop infighting and stop trying to influence the government or trick them because of the asymmetric knowledge the industry has relative to outsiders and observers. This further makes it seem like a shady money grab to many bystanders. Data centers have unfortunately become THE symbolic representation of the asymmetric upside for a very narrow tech elite and a class that are untrustworthy. Inasmuch, the safer bet may be that the pushback and resistance grows…

Upon further analysis of Tulsi Gabbard’s most recent declassification related to Ukraine, I have discovered evidence that she is directly peddling Russian government propaganda. Slide 4 contains the internal work product of an American corporation (Black and Veatch) that worked with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in Ukraine. The Russian Government claims to have captured these documents during their invasion of Ukraine. The Russian Government then widely publicized these products in their own official reports in 2022. Gabbard’s political staff (not IC analysts) recycled published propaganda of the Russian Government in an attempt to spread false narratives while falsely claiming the slideshow she released this week is an original work product of US intel agencies. Page 83 of the following document presented by the Russian Government to the UN Security Council shows the exact figure that Gabbard recycled in slide 4 of her release this week.
