The reason it doesn't work here is because the blocking pattern is causing the nor'easter to retrograde and move backwards; so the proverb flips.

The right way to think about opera (at least as a beginner, I found) is not as a work of modern entertainment engineered to maximize your stimulus at every moment but as a kind of feast in time. It is an elevation of ordinary experience, and you are supposed to marinate in it.
This is nice, but the truth is that traditional (pre-musical theatre) opera is very very boring. The best way to help people enjoy it would be to put on “the best of opera” nights that just do the highlight songs and drop the terrible 3-hour plots in between them.

For 2+ decades, DC reversed the old “northeastern charm, southern efficiency” canard and combined a Sunbelt boosterism & pro-growth orientation with the infrastructure & economy of a Northeastern coastal city. I hope it can keep it going in our post-DOGE, post-ZIRP era.
dc is lowkey a great value for what you get. big northeastern city with cool things to do and jobs. everywhere else has seen climbing rents, ours are relatively stable.

I work at a restaurant that does events and we received some challenging last-minute requests from a client. We scrambled to fill them. I realized later that these requests were likely made by an AI agent, and that the human client might not have personally cared. This felt bad!
a world where everyone has a perfectly rational, tireless optimizer working on their behalf is much more adversarial than people realize. a lot of our existing infrastructure will not survive this transition.
