The principal of Wylie East High School in Texas. is gone because an outside Islamic group was allowed to set up inside her school.
Tiffany Doolan notified Wylie ISD on May 26, 2026, that she was resigning after 19 years in the district and six as principal.
In early February, four women from Why Islam were on campus during lunch to meet the Muslim Student Association for World Hijab Day. They were not approved.
On the table: Qurans, an “Understanding Shariah” pamphlet, hijabs and scarves to try on, henna, candy, and branded bags.
Parents found out the way they usually do now. Marco Hunter-Lopez, president of the school’s Republican club, filmed what he saw and posted it. The video spread. He later told Congress, at the invitation of Rep. Chip Roy, that it was ideological promotion under the guise of diversity and inclusion. An older photo of Doolan wearing a hijab at a prior student-led World Hijab Day event resurfaced and fed the criticism.
The district’s line is that this was a procedural failure, not an official religious program, and that claims it intentionally promoted a religion are false. Fine. Procedure is how the door opened. The substance is what came through it, an unapproved dawah group, in a taxpayer-funded American high school, during the school day, with literature on Sharia and headscarves for students to try on.
