His name was Dr. Idris Evans. He was 46.
He was a pediatric critical care physician at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
He ran the team that transports the sickest children in the region, the babies and kids so critical they have to be moved between hospitals just to survive.
Just after midnight Thursday, police say a Black man, Elijah Hemingway, got into his home in Edgewood and attacked him and his wife while they were asleep in their bed.
His wife told police they fought back with everything they had.
Their two children, 8 and 12 years old, made it out alive.

A police dog tracked down 32-year-old Elijah Hemingway hiding behind a nearby house with cuts on his hand.
He's now charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary, and criminal trespass.
Back in February, according to a criminal complaint, Hemingway forced his way into his ex-partner's home and stole her laptop and two cell phones.
He was arrested in July. Two felonies. Burglary and theft.
And he was released on a NONMONETARY bond. Not a dime. He just walked out.

“Grandma Euthanized [Canada] Against Her Will Dies Covered in Blood After Botched MAiD Attempt”
An 83-year-old Canadian grandmother with stomach cancer was allegedly killed under Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying program even after she cried that she’d “made a mistake” and failed a cognitive test.
Brigitte Stegemann had no memory of requesting death. Two days before the scheduled date her granddaughter asked if she understood she would die Friday. She broke down sobbing for 45 minutes.
On the day itself, a nurse repeatedly pierced her arms trying to insert the IV, soaking her nightie, pillow, and sheets in blood — and wearing no gloves. A doctor then asked if he could give her “medicine.” She lay motionless with her eyes closed and never answered. He proceeded anyway.
Ten minutes later she was pronounced dead, hands clasped in prayer.
This is the predictable result of expanding state-sanctioned killing and calling it compassion. Safeguards evaporate, the elderly and cognitively impaired become easy targets, and a “peaceful death” turns into a bloody mess.
Her family is demanding answers. Police have opened a criminal investigation.

I am absolutely livid.
We had to drive to the Walgreens in Alma because the Van Buren Walgreens no longer has a pharmacy, and my husband has a prescription we can only get through Walgreens.
We get there and they tell us the copay is $190.79. It has ALWAYS been $23. It was $23 last month. So we questioned it right there at the window.
The employee was snotty and arrogant and acted like we were just a couple of clueless old people who couldn’t possibly know what we normally pay. He insisted $190.79 was correct.
So we called our insurance company. The copay is $23.
Now here’s the part that really gets me. Walgreens has our credit card on file and had no problem charging $190.79 to it, but they apparently can’t refund the overcharge to that same card unless we physically return to the store.
That means another 50-mile round trip because someone couldn’t be bothered to double-check something we specifically questioned while standing right in front of him.
Mistakes happen. I can deal with a mistake. What I have a problem with is arrogance when a customer tells you something isn’t right and you can’t be bothered to check.
And sometimes those “clueless old people” standing at your window actually know exactly what they’re talking about.
