I met @MohamedAliNafti at #UNGA81 in New York today. The 🇪🇺-🇹🇳 partnership is long-standing, with cooperation ranging from energy and investment to skills and migration management. Day 3 at #UNGA81 - another full day for the Mediterranean. Today we worked with our partners on stability and security across the region - from Gaza’s recovery to food security and strategic maritime routes. We strengthened regional and bilateral partnerships and also engaged with young people - because they must have a voice in shaping our region’s future. Security, partnerships and the next generation - for a more stable and prosperous Mediterranean.

🇪🇺🇺🇳 During the UN General Assembly in New York, I participated in the ministerial meeting on maritime security, stressing the importance of open and safe maritime routes and stronger international cooperation. I also had important and constructive discussions with ministers from Saudi Arabia, India, the Republic of Korea and Armenia, as well as with partners from around the world, on how we can strengthen cooperation on resilient connectivity, maritime security, transport and tourism. Transport is no longer simply about moving people and goods. Ports, shipping lanes, airports, railways and strategic corridors are essential to Europe’s economic security, resilience and competitiveness. In a world facing growing uncertainty, Europe depends on an open world: open sea lanes, secure infrastructure, common global rules and reliable connectivity. #UNGA81

In New York, at the @EuropeGulfForum, hosted by the @AtlanticCouncil and @AntennaNews, we discussed how Europe and the Gulf can deepen their cooperation, to strengthen security, resilience and prosperity. Recent developments have shown how important it is to protect maritime routes, diversify trade and energy corridors, and invest in more resilient connections — by sea, rail, road and air. We need a “network of networks”, with more diverse and resilient connections, so that we are not overly dependent on a single corridor or chokepoint. At the same time, we should deepen our cooperation on the production of sustainable aviation fuels and tourism. In a changing world, we need trusted partners and stronger bridges that bring us closer together.

At this #UNGA week, together with @BarhamSalih, High Commissioner for @Refugees, we marked 75 years of the Refugee Convention. Today, we exchanged on the hard realities: Syria, Sahel, Afghanistan and other crises, as well the reforms we need to deliver on.

Glad to meet again @volker_turk on the margins of #UNGA81 to discuss how 🇪🇺 and 🇺🇳 can work together to advance human rights, peace, democracy, and sustainable development. Pandemic Preparedness is not built during a crisis. It must be built before the crisis hits That means investing in surveillance, vaccines & treatments, resilient supply chains.@UN declaration recognises this. The current #Ebola outbreak in 🇨🇩 sadly reminds us why this matters.

With over 70% of child casualties caused by explosive weapons in populated areas, commitments must become action. At #UNGA81, 🇪🇺 DSG @OlofBSkoog reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to protecting children in armed conflict, upholding IHL & ensuring accountability.

This week at #UNGA, representatives from 193 countries called for joint action on the most pressing topics: 🔹 rapid and unhindered humanitarian assistance to Gaza 🔹 food supply protection by bringing together the Rome Coalition and existing EU partnerships 🔹 the need for global AI standards 🔹 greater attention to threats posed by sea-level rise Europe will always choose outreach and cooperation.

International coordination matters when it leads to concrete action. At today’s #AHLC meeting at the @UN, I stressed the need to support Palestinian institutions, advance reforms and accelerate early recovery in Gaza. The 🇪🇺 is doing its part: • €1.6 billion to support the Palestinian people and institutions. • Through the #PalestineDonorGroup and #TeamGazaInitiative, close to $1 billion mobilised. • The first €43 million in flagship early recovery projects just signed with @UNICEF and @UNDP and ready to be implemented. Now we need to build on these first steps, bring more partners on board and work towards a viable Palestinian State, living side by side with Israel in peace and security.

1/5 yesterday I joined roundtable on linking development investments to labour mobility. Our competitiveness relies on growth, stronger skills systems and tackling workforce shortages — shared prosperity for countries of origin, destination and workers alike.

EU Member States have agreed on the terms for releasing €6.6 billion European Peace Facility funds for Ukraine. That’s good news for Ukraine and bad news for Russia. €900 million are for the EU’s Military Assistance Mission for Ukraine. €1 billion will fund new joint procurement of equipment. And €4.7 billion will reimburse Member States, with some already saying they will channel their share to Ukraine. Moscow’s hybrid attacks try to intimidate Europe into scaling back its support for Ukraine. Europe is doing the opposite.
