Hi everyone. My jurisdiction is limited by law and courts. We @CivilRights do as much as we can to expand liberty — within the boundaries set by law and courts. So tagging me on everything that annoys you is fine, but realize my very able team is only going to be able to do something about it if we have jurisdiction, law, and facts on our side, at a minimum! And then, policy priorities and resources.
The hazards of being a civil rights lawyer include having to explain this often and letting people down, but we are a nation of laws, not feelings.

Justice Department Secures $150,000 Settlement in Sexual Harassment Lawsuit Against Kentucky Landlord
“Tenants should not be forced to choose between safety and keeping a roof over their heads,” said @AAGDhillon. “This case involved a landlord’s sexual harassment of female tenants, including threats to evict tenants who refused his advances. The Justice Department will continue to hold landlords accountable for using their power to violate the rights of vulnerable women.”

The Justice Department announced today that it filed a lawsuit against Venkatachalam Mani, a landlord in State College, Pennsylvania, for sexually harassing a female tenant and retaliating against her when she refused his advances, in violation of the Fair Housing Act.
“The landlord failed to fix a tenant’s furnace despite freezing temperatures because the female tenant refused his sexual advances, forcing her family to move out with no other place to live,” said @AAGDhillon. “This conduct is illegal. The Justice Department will uphold the rights of female tenants to housing without the threat of sexual harassment by a landlord.”

Affirmative action loopholes now are dead at @USEEOC. “The Commission’s rescission of the Affirmative Action Guidelines is consistent with the text of Title VII and Supreme Court precedent,” said EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas. “As our nation approaches its 250th birthday, we are reminded that the Founders’ vision rested on the enduring principle that every individual is created equal and therefore is entitled to equal treatment under the law.
