🚨 Major NMC Update for Doctors 🚨 NMC has proposed important amendments to the Registration of Medical Practitioners & Licence to Practice Medicine Regulations, 2023: 🔹 One Registration, Nationwide Practice: Once registered with an SMC and allotted an NMR UID, a doctor can practice across India without fresh registration/licence in every State/UT. 🔹 Unified Registration Portal: Registration + licence applications through the EMRB/NMC unified portal. 🔹 National Medical Register (NMR): UID-based national registry with automatic synchronization with State Medical Registers. 🔹 Greater Transparency: Active/inactive licence status + disciplinary actions, suspension, removal & restoration orders to be reflected in the NMR. 🔹 5-year Licence: Licence remains valid for 5 years; failure to renew within 3 months after expiry → “inactive” status and no practice. 🔹 Misconduct/Negligence: SMC in whose territorial jurisdiction the cause of action occurred will have jurisdiction to inquire into the matter. 🔹 Appeal Mechanism: Rejection of registration/licence can be appealed to EMRB within 30 days; EMRB decision is binding on the SMC. 🔹 FMGs: Draft specifically recognises FMGE (until NExT comes into force) for provisional registration/NMR registration, subject to applicable regulations. 🔹 Foreign Doctors: Temporary registration for foreign nationals undergoing PG/Super-specialty training may extend up to 24 months, followed by a 1-year cooling-off period. Important: These are DRAFT regulations, not the final rules. Delhi: On NEET-UG counselling, FORDA National General Secretary Dr. Meet Ghonia says, "The Union Health Ministry has introduced reforms under NEET-UG, under which the admission process for MBBS, BDS, Homeopathy, Ayurveda and other undergraduate courses will now be conducted through centralised, merit-based counselling. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), which handles counselling for NEET-UG, NEET-PG and NEET-SS, has issued a new direction under which candidates will have to complete one-time registration for admission to any course. After that, even if their seat is upgraded in subsequent rounds, they will not have to visit physically for verification after every round..." (30.07)

Until now, the counselling process generally consisted of three rounds, with a mop-up round conducted in some cases. Students often had to travel from one state to another for physical reporting in every round, which caused considerable inconvenience. Now, there will be one-time physical reporting, and any subsequent reporting can be done online through a mobile phone or laptop from home. Document verification can also be completed online..."

#WATCH | Delhi | On the NEET-UG counseling reforms, Federation of Resident Doctors Association National General Secretary Dr Meet Ghonia says, “3-4 reforms were introduced, many of which hadn't been implemented previously but are being put into effect this year. First, consider that while 20 lakh students took the exam, around 10 to 12 lakh will participate in the counseling. Previously, students had to undergo physical reporting multiple times across the various stages… However, the Union Health Minister has now decided to implement a "one-time" system for physical reporting and document verification. This single verification process remains valid throughout the counseling stages; even if you secure admission in a different city or state during the final round, the verification completed earlier will still be accepted there. Secondly, a "one-time registration" system has been introduced for all counseling processes. Whether you are seeking admission to MBBS, BDS, or any other course, the counseling process for the Union Government's 50% All India Quota remains unified, allowing you to proceed with your admission through this single registration."

FORDA welcomes the Hon'ble Supreme Court's direction to the Government of Tamil Nadu to revert the 151 unfilled NEET SS seats to DGHS and its direction to ensure the counselling process is completed expeditiously.
