A huge win for Alberta, vulnerable Albertans and their families. And yet another sign our country is getting back on track after the Trudeau years. Alberta’s UCP government was proud to pass legislation last spring that prohibited MAID for individuals whose sole underlying medical condition is a mental illness. We’re pleased to see the federal government has announced they will be following our lead and won’t be moving ahead with their planned expansion of MAID to those whose sole underlying condition is mental illness. This is the common sense approach we’ve been calling for since the beginning. Well done Alberta! And kudos to the Feds for changing direction.

One Liberal MP had the guts to do what's right today and vote with Conservatives and NDP to protect Canadians suffering from mental illness from euthanasia. Just one, unfortunately, so the bill did not pass. Thank you MP Kent MacDonald. God bless you.

In Parliament, MP Dean Allison reflected on the Allison Inquiry and its purpose: to listen to Canadians injured by Covid-19 vaccines. He spoke about the four days of deeply emotional testimony, including witnesses who came forward on behalf of family members who had died. Among them was Crystal, who testified about her brother Scott Gorry, a former Parliament Hill employee who had hoped to testify himself before his death. Dean Allison recognized the courage of the witnesses who travelled from across Canada, as well as the MPs, Shawn and Teresa Buckley, volunteers, and families who made the Inquiry possible. “The stories were difficult, but they needed to be heard.” The testimony was heard. Now, the stories must not be forgotten. @DeanAllisonMP @Shawnbuckleylaw
I’ll deliver a statement on the @AllisonInquiry in Parliament today around 2pm

Thank you to everyone who shared their comments and concerns about Bill C-218 and the continued expansion of Medical Assistance in Dying. Unfortunately, we lost the vote in the House of Commons, but your voices were heard. Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak up.

Canada is moving forward with legislation to exclude medical assistance in dying for individuals whose sole condition is mental illness. This aims to protect vulnerable people and maintain hope for a better future. #MentalHealth #Hope #Canada

A promising press conference, in measure. Liberal government says they WILL delay access to MAiD for the mentally vulnerable indefinitely. They will table their own bill on the issue this fall. Finer details coming. Stay tuned...but this is a victory today for the protection of those who struggle with mental illness. Liberals will likely vote against C-218 as a block. This means it may fail today. However, the Liberals will deal with the issue in a forthcoming bill. This good progress and announcement today is due, in large part, to the strong work of MP Tamara Jansen and all of you who made calls (more than 6,000 in the last week!) and prayed. I will bring more insight later after the C-218 vote. See the full press conference here (underway right now): cpac.ca/headline-politics/ep…

Guys. These are messages I have gotten over the last few hours as I have been encouraging more people to make calls. Please read them to get a sense of what is at stake and how close to home this one can hit. Get the list of phone numbers, scripts, etc. here: 4mycanada.com/target-list-c-… C-9 was bad. This issue is deadly. This is not a time to be concerned but passive. This is a time to be active. Ask our leaders to vote FOR C-218 on Wednesday. Please make calls....and share. (Be sure and log your calls after you make them so we can track how many Canadians are speaking up on this and share those numbers with our leaders. fs30.formsite.com/secureonli… ) @TamaraJansenMP @ArnoldViersen @AndrewLawton @LeslynLewis @PierrePoilievre @MarkJCarney @RebelNewsOnline @junonewscom @elie_mcn @Merittvcanada @RightNowHQ @ARPACanada @BlakeRichardsMP

Religious freedoms facing ongoing assaults in Canada gets attention of US State Senator. His visit to Canada is not to criticize, it’s to ask how this could happen, and to encourage. Things could get interesting.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we remember the painful legacy of residential schools and their lasting impact on Indigenous families and communities. Reconciliation invites us to listen, to learn from the past and continue building stronger relationships with First Nations and Métis people based on respect, partnership and understanding. Reconciliation must be backed by action. We remain committed to working alongside First Nations and Métis communities to support their priorities, from creating new economic opportunities through the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation to supporting Indigenous-led recovery communities that provide culturally appropriate care closer to home. We will continue building these partnerships, strengthening communities and advancing reconciliation together.

How can you NOT believe in God when octopuses dream and otters have a favorite rock they carry around in a little skin pocket and cows have best friends and bees are out there communicating the coordinates of flowers through dancing and they have regional dialects? Cats are purring at frequencies associated with bone healing? Forests get absolutely incinerated and respond by growing flowers? Dolphins literally invent names for themselves and yell them across the ocean? Penguins are waddling around Antarctica looking for the perfect rock to give their partner? CROWS REMEMBER YOUR FACE. THEY TELL OTHER CROWS ABOUT YOU. THEY TELL THEIR CHILDREN ABOUT YOU. YOU CAN HAVE GENERATIONAL BEEF WITH A BIRD. I NEED YOU TO UNDERSTAND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS. Goats have accents. Rats laugh when you tickle them. Elephants mourn their dead. Whales make songs and then OTHER WHALES LEARN THE SONG and suddenly everybody across the ocean is singing the new song. Monarch butterflies are born knowing how to fly thousands of miles to a place they have never been. Sea turtles hatch out of an egg, immediately sprint toward an ocean that they have never seen, disappear into it for like 3 decades and then somehow come back to the same beach they hatched on. Birds can see colors that we humans can’t see. There are colors out there right now that we don’t even get to know about. There are sea slugs that eat algae and use the chloroplast/chlorophyll and then are just like…photosynthesizing. And they’re super adorable. There are mushrooms communicating underground. There are seeds sitting in the dirt for decades like “no actually I will wait. It’s fine.” Squirrels plant trees because they forget where they put their snacks. Relatable. A CATERPILLAR GOES INTO A LITTLE BAG THAT IT CREATES ITSELF AND DISSOLVES MOST OF ITS BODY INTO ORGANIC GOO AND REARRANGES ITSELF, GROWS WINGS AND THEN LEAVES. WHY IS THIS NOT MORE BEAUTIFULLY TERRIFYING TO PEOPLE?? And you’re telling me a tiny acorn knows how to become a huge tree? It just has a blueprint inside itself? Your body started as ONE CELL. ONE. And that cell divided itself into a brain that can think about its own existence and eyes that can look at stars and hands that can hold somebody else’s hands and a heart that runs on electricity without you even asking it to? The iron in our blood was made inside a star?? We are walking around on a wet rock covered in bioluminescent oceans and singing whales and laughing rats and birds holding lifelong grudges and flowers exploding out of fire and somehow we’re supposed to act like this is a normal place to live? We’re supposed to act like this is all just a random, accidental sequence of events?
