A perfect time to remember that politics is a farce and that these three great actors who brought that farce to life on our TVs are no longer with us.
One of the best lines of all time.

While Australia stared at the crippled dead cat they just threw on the table, Labor and the Liberals were quietly passing legislation that should have been front-page news. The dead cat was Jordon Steele-John. I don’t know for sure who threw it there. But I know what happened in Parliament while everyone was looking. On Monday 12 October, Labor and the Coalition backed the Health Insurance Amendment (Incentive Payments and Other Measures) Bill 2026. Sounds harmless, doesn’t it? It creates a legal framework for more than $1.4 BILLION a year in government payments to healthcare providers, including corporate-owned businesses. But buried in that legislation are powers to let ministers decide payment rules, demand records, share personal information, investigate providers, recover money and authorise computers to make decisions, including decisions requiring judgement. Parliament’s own Human Rights Committee had already warned that these information powers could seriously interfere with Australians’ privacy and that the safeguards might not be good enough. They passed it anyway. Then came the Social Security and Other Legislation Amendment (Technical Changes No. 2) Bill 2026. More computer-made decisions. More use of income data to calculate family assistance and child support. New powers to change certain decisions already under review by the Administrative Review Tribunal. Some provisions improve review rights. Others expand automated administration. After Robodebt, you might reasonably expect Parliament to examine every one of those powers with a microscope. And then there was the Aged Care Legislation Amendment (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Aged Care Commissioner and Other Measures) Bill 2026. This changes aged-care subsidies, accommodation deposits, means-testing arrangements and government debt recovery. It also establishes a limited pathway for reconsidering certain aged-care assessments. Not the unfettered right for qualified assessors to override an algorithm when it gets someone’s needs wrong. After months of pressure, the government finally agreed on Thursday to an independent review of its aged-care assessment system. Now consider what we’ve been uncovering at Enough Australia. Private equity buying up healthcare businesses. nib acquiring independent NDIS plan managers. Publicly funded services being consolidated into corporate groups. Governments increasingly relying on data, payment rules and automated administration. These laws do not hand Medicare or the NDIS to nib. But they help build the administrative and funding environment in which large corporate operators can do business. We, the public, pays for it. The government writes the rules. Private businesses can receive the money. And increasingly, computer systems help decide who qualifies, what gets paid and what happens when the records don’t agree. Labor and the Coalition did not agree on every amendment, particularly in aged care. But they supported key parts of this expanding administrative machinery. And who was sitting in Parliament on Monday warning about exactly this? Jordon Steele-John. On Tuesday, he supported an amendment seeking to abolish the controversial aged-care assessment tool. Labor voted it down. On Thursday, the government announced a review of that system. By Thursday afternoon, the headlines were about Jordon himself. The decade old allegations against him deserve a fair, independent investigation. So do the decisions being made about the rest of us. Because while everyone was staring at the dead cat, Parliament was deciding who controls the money, who controls the information and how much power human beings will have when the computers get it wrong. That’s the story we should be reading. Www.enoughaustralia.com

Trump says “every country using windmills have gone bankrupt”. The three biggest users of windmills are China, The United States of America and Germany. Anyone here about those three countries going bankrupt? Why does he lie on things that are so easily verifiable?

So, let me get this straight; we spend nearly 5 years supporting Ukraine in its defense against Russia (who attacked Ukraine unprovoked) and now we’re allies with Russia in its attacks against the Ukrainian people. WHY?

thedailybeast.com/airman-kil… #USDemocracy #DemsUnited #DemVoice1 Pete Hegseth sent another airman to his death for an ill conceived stunt at a football game. An AirForce service member who was training to be an air traffic controller died after falling from the rafters of the Alamodome in San Antonio. Why the fuck was an airman training to be an air traffic controller sent to rappel from the 170 feet high rafters of the stadium? This is more proof of Bloody Pete Hegseth’s performative “Warrior Ethos” and “Lethality” bullshit that has turned service members into nothing but bit players in Bloody Petes self aggrandizing stunts at sports stadiums across the nation

Worth reiterating. Hybrid war is not actually war, it's sub-threshold for a reason. And similar discussions were happening in the early Cold War on Britain’s response to Moscow.
Fiona Hill, a former adviser to the US National Security Council, says war with Russia is "already happening" – but Sky's @haynesdeborah challenges what we mean by war, and whether the comparison with Ukraine goes too far.

This is what Jillian Segal is defending. This is what the Albanese government's continued political and diplomatic support facilitates. The IDF covered for a group of thugs who were bashing a woman journalist to death. This is Israeli terrorism - this is why the world loathes them.
“Let me die,” American photojournalist Heidi Levine repeats to journalists Jasper Nathaniel as they try to outrun masked Israeli settlers who attacked her on Friday while she covered the olive harvest in the West Bank village of Abu Falah, near Ramallah. Around 80 settlers attacked Palestinian olive harvesters in the village, AP reported. The Palestinian Red Crescent said it treated six people injured in two attacks in Abu Falah. Levine, a freelancer for the Washington Post, told the Committee to Protect Journalists that the settlers knocked her down and kicked her for at least 10 minutes, even after she identified herself as an American journalist. They stole her camera, phone and bag. She was eventually taken to a hospital in Ramallah. "The IDF provided cover, with tear gas and machine guns, while the settlers beat" Levine "nearly to death," Nathaniel wrote, adding that soldiers then shot a Palestinian bystander and aimed their guns at and shoved paramedics trying to treat him. AP photos and circulating videos show Israeli soldiers standing over a wounded Palestinian man after they shot him. Andrey X, an activist also at the scene, said a Palestinian man "saved our lives from the settler-terrorists who attacked the olive harvesters and journalists” armed only with a slingshot. x.com/NTarnopolsky/status/21…

Repulsive Trump slated by former UK Foreign Secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind.
Much punchier accusations from Sir Malcolm Rifkind - a former defence and foreign secretary: "I choose my words very carefully. I think this week Donald Trump has shown himself as a person to be repulsive; as a President of the United States to be a disgrace to his own people as well as to his international responsibilities. "We all know his actual reasons for this are a grubby attempt to win a few more votes in the midterms by trying to get oil prices down. "In order to achieve that, he has not only betrayed Ukraine in the middle of a war, fighting for its very existence, but he is also directly - not indirectly - directly responsible for the deaths of many Ukrainians who will not now be protected by the attempts that have been successfully made using intelligence provided indirectly by the United States." x.com/breeallegretti/status/…

The Rabbi Dov Lior, the main rabbi of Ben-Gvir's party and of the Hilltop Youth has released a ruling explaining why it is not only legal to steal olives from Palestinians, but also a good thing. He writes: Harvesting olives in the Holy Land is entirely permitted, and it even carries an added virtue, given the security dangers posed by Arabs approaching the Jewish communities and settlement points." "Jews are permitted to harvest the olives even in areas far from the Jewish communities, in order to publicly display our ownership of the Land, and in doing so they fulfill the commandment of conquering the Land." The Jewish religion is being weaponized by our rabbis to steal land and agricultural products from the true indigenous owners of the land.

In Cold War terms underselling the Navy - it was 50 plus frigates and destroyers alone, and 30 plus submarines, a commando brigade, amphibious, fleet auxiliary and hydrographic flotillas, dozens of mine warfare vessels and patrol ships plus carriers with jets the Navy actually owned, and more. Overselling today - at most six major surface vessels available at any one time. Zero operational submarines. RFA, amphib forces, hydrography and mine warfare forces all but gone, no RMs commando brigade, jets owned by RAF, and the F-35B is rarely at sea and largely toothless. Patrol ships about to be reduced even further. But, otherwise spot on 🤕
👇More voices calling for upgrading our defence posture- but will Government listen? 👉During the Cold War: we could field 5 Divisions, over 50 war ships and 36 air squadrons. 👉Today : We could just muster 1 division, a dozen warships and just 6 air squadrons. To compound matters - we have little homeland and greyzone resilience and have failed to keep up with the changing characteristics of warfare. As the threat picture deteriorates- when will we wake up?
