Geologists messing about in boats… and looking for clues in the mud...
Lake sediment sampling is underway at Scotch Lake, one of the Ontario Rare Earth Element (REE) properties that we optioned earlier this year.
It may not look like conventional mineral exploration - there’s not a rock hammer in sight - but the sediment at the bottom of these lakes can provide valuable clues about the geochemistry of the surrounding area.
Why the mud matters:
🌊 Lakes act as natural collection points for material transported through their catchments.
🔬 Weathering and erosion release tiny particles carrying the chemical signature of the rocks they came from.
🧪 Analysing the sediments for REEs and other geochemical indicators can help identify anomalous areas.
📍 Those anomalies can then help narrow the search for the source rocks that may warrant further investigation.
So, while a bucket of lake mud might not look particularly exciting, it can help point exploration in the right direction.
Early-stage exploration involves plenty of science, systematic sampling and, occasionally, geologists getting to mess about in boats!

At Sunbeam, multiple workstreams led by 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗱 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 have been progressing in parallel, including 𝘀𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗴𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝘀, 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 and 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, alongside historical and recent drill-data compilation, core review and geological interpretation.
The programme has also included site visits and technical input from CEO 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲, consultant 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 and 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗹, adding external expertise to the work underway.

Three weeks. Multiple projects. Plenty of kilometres, core, outcrops and geological discussions.
CEO Marc Sale has now wrapped up his latest Ontario field trip, taking in Kerrs, Roy, Pettigrew and Road Zone and working alongside geologists and technical experts to get closer to the geology behind FCM’s exploration story.
The trip has been about seeing the geology first-hand, asking questions and bringing different perspectives together.
Now the field boots are off, the samples and observations are being reviewed, and the team can start piecing together everything they’ve seen.

CEO Marc Sale and Geologist Chris Cooper previously worked alongside ‘Diamond’ Dave Pykari at Landore Resources, where they were involved in the exploration and discovery of the ‘VW’ nickel and ‘BAM’ gold zones.
Yesterday, the team reunited at DP Diamond Blades, where Chris and Marc reviewed the core-cutting facilities. The facility is set to process 200,000m of core over the next 12 months.
