According to El Mundo, the CIA warned Spain, France and Italy about a possible Russian attack scenario: drones could be hidden inside ordinary shipping containers on merchant vessels and launched from the Mediterranean Sea.
โThey will use drones launched from the sea and hidden in a container aboard a ship,โ a source close to Lithuaniaโs Defense Ministry told the newspaper.
European authorities reportedly began receiving warnings about the possible threat shortly after CIA Director John Ratcliffe visited Moscow on August 25. France has already stepped up preparations for potential drone attacks and the protection of critical infrastructure.
One El Mundo source compared the alleged plan to Ukraineโs Operation Spiderweb: move the drones as close to the target as possible, conceal them, and strike from an unexpected direction.
The CIA has not publicly confirmed the existence of such a report.
