The NFL launched an investment fund called 32 Equity back in 2013 with $1 million from each team owner. Team owners have doubled down several times since, and 32 Equity has now raised more than $250 million. The strategy is simple: the NFL invests in companies, helps them grow through NFL deals (think: data, licensing, sponsorships), and then benefits as a shareholder, profiting off both sides of the transaction. In 2017, the NFL acquired a 3% stake in Fanatics at a $3.17 billion valuation. Fanatics works with the NFL on everything from merchandise and trading cards to hospitality and retail, and is now a $30 billion company. Other investments include Hyperice, CLEAR, NOBULL, Skillz, Genius Sports, EverPass, and Appetize, with multiple companies producing nine-figure returns. Now the NFL is doubling down again, announcing yesterday that it is partnering with private equity giant General Atlantic ($130B AUM) on a new investment fund. By becoming a general partner in this fund, the NFL will get paid to manage other people's money (management fees and carry), and team owners won't have to share any of that money with players (because private equity investments aren't included in revenue sharing). Today's newsletter breaks down the details. READ MORE: huddleup.substack.com/p/nfl-…

Alabama fans, if the offensive game plan in the loss at Tennessee left you scratching your head—especially that opening script—you’re not alone. @joelklatt: "The script is only good if the script works... Kalen and Ryan just won't run the football..."

An update to the Just Bring Your Guys chart Coaches who brought more than 8 players with them through the transfer portal to their new school, and their records through 7 games of their first season. I wonder if the Matt Campbell-Penn State situation will become the standard moving forward or if it was more of a desperate reaction to PSU's late head coach hire + Franklin taking many recruits with him to VT. It may take us a while to see that transfer record route eclipsed

30 play rolling averages of EPA/play and success rate for Alabama under Kalen DeBoer. A similar trend of starting slow, getting hot, falling off towards the meat of conference play, with a slight uptick towards the end in Week 9-10.
Ryan Grubb: "It starts with me. Thought I had a good game plan. This isn't a point a finger at the kids kind of day."

It’s time for a new replay procedure. Given the amount of deference that is given to the on-field call and the standard of indisputable evidence to overturn, we need to have an option for refs to no call and go straight to replay if they truly were not able to see what happened

📊 THE DAWG 68 - Week 7. Every P4 team ranked by how they’ve performed against expectations this season. Wake Forest! UCLA and Northwestern still holding strong Texas and OU 😬 Remember, these aren’t power rankings. A team’s DAWG grade measures how much it’s beaten or fallen short of Vegas' expectations.

The streak continues. The last time Alabama lost on the road without a field storming was 2010 at LSU.
