In an increasingly dangerous world, sea power remains fundamental to keeping our country and people safe. Our submarines are essential to that effort, which is why I am delighted that HMS Agamemnon, the sixth of our A-boats, is beginning sea trials and will soon join the fleet.

Today in Riga I had really productive meetings with the Latvian Chief of Defence and the Commander of Naval Forces. Great discussions on how we can strengthen 🇬🇧 🇱🇻 co-operation, Baltic security, and our collective defence through @NATO and the @JEFnations Northern Navies.

Remembering those who served. During his visit to Latvia, the UK’s First Sea Lord @GenGJenkinsRM paid tribute to the nine Royal Navy sailors who died aboard HMS Dragon in 1919. Their service remains part of the shared history underpinning the strong 🇬🇧🇱🇻 partnership.

At the Corps Family Weekend I had the pleasure of handing John Eskdale, a 102-year-old veteran, his 1942 passing out photo It was found in a loft and brought to the Corps weekend in someone’s rucksack during the Poole to Lympstone race. That’s what we mean by esprit de corps!

Today we honoured King Harald V of Norway, whose decades long relationship with our Armed Forces reflected the deep friendship between our two nations. @BritishArmy & @RoyalMarines personnel attended his funeral in Oslo providing a marching detachment and lined the route as a mark of respect.

Saddened to hear of the recent passing of Maj Gen Andrew Whitehead, whose bravery leading 45 Cdo @RoyalMarines during the Falklands War saw him awarded the Distinguished Service Order. He leaves behind a proud legacy and his service will always be remembered in the Corps.
