In dark mode, darker skin tones have often vanished against deep gray and black chat bubbles. When the silhouette disappears, so does the meaning. Nobody should have to choose between using their actual skin tone and having their messages be legible. To fix this across 3,977 characters, we paired an AI-powered contrast audit tool with hand-sculpted rim lighting to preserve rich tone and clarity on every screen. In 2D illustration, you only solve for one angle. In 3D, there’s nowhere to hide. Case in point: Sculpting our flat poodle in full dimension revealed she only had three legs the entire time. (Don't worry, she now has all four.) A few favorite process moments and near-misses from building Noto 3D, now up on design.google → goo.gle/4diXoc0

When choosing web fonts, consider the size. Sans serifs work well for small sizes, while Geometric or Humanist styles are suitable for medium sizes. For large text over 24pt, Display fonts are a great choice. They have striking features that stand out at larger sizes.

In a live chat, ending a sentence with a period reads like an act of aggression. That’s just the emotional tax of talking through glass. To bring real warmth, bounce, and presence back to the screen, we’re rolling out Noto 3D. Go behind the scenes with @jenniferdaniel to see how translating our flat emoji into full 360° dimensional characters unlocked unexpected design challenges → goo.gle/4diXoc0 #GoogleDesign #3D

Need a user's confirmation or action? Snackbars can be configured with actions like "Undo" or "Learn More," giving them persistence until the user engages or dismisses the message. This flexibility ensures critical information is conveyed without hindering the user experience.

In #MaterialDesign 3, Extended FABs are the most prominent button type and should be used when a regular FAB (with just an icon) may not be clear enough for the user. What factors do you consider when determining whether or not to use an Extended FAB?

Celebrating small wins is hardwired into "Achieve," our goal-tracking sample app. We wanted the simple act of checking off a task to feel like a celebration. Instead of the standard #Material ripple, we used Styles to drop in a custom, high-contrast completion animation—specifically, a brand-colored ring that expands and fades on tap, paired with a subtle pressed-state gradient. It lets us focus entirely on polishing those custom, rewarding micro-interactions while Material handles the foundation. #GoogleDesign #MaterialDesign #JetpackCompose #AndroidDev #UXDesign #InteractionDesign
