Of course I can explain. Nuclear power was originally sold to the public as "Power too cheap to meter." As in FREE electricity. Originally the plan involved reprocessing the spent nuclear fuel and reusing it, saving incredible amounts of money because spent fuel is still >80% viable. But in 1977 DEMOCRAT Jimmy Carter banned reprocessing of spent fuel, ruining the fuel cycle and forcing plants to store the spent fuel rods on site. Currently the spent fuel assemblies are in concrete dry storage casks that are two feet thick concrete lined with 1/2" steel plates and are self cooling. They present no hazard. They're just $20 TRILLION dollars in usable energy content sitting there doing nothing. Democrats ruin everything.
