If you dare to question ICE operations, if you dare to question the war in Iran, if you challenge Tom Cotton’s record on the Farm Bill, or disagree with him on ANY number of everyday issues affecting Arkansans, at best he’ll tell you you’re wrong. At worst, he’ll tell you you’re anti-American. But Tom Cotton is not America. ICE is not America. No political party is America. And no government official gets to decide who loves this country based on whether they agree with him. Questioning our government is not anti-American. Holding powerful people accountable is one of the most American things we can do. Patriotism is not obedience to a politician. It is believing enough in this country to demand better from the people entrusted to serve it.

I just changed my voter registration from Republican to Independent. That means I don’t buy fully into the uniparty. My support for a single candidate does not define me in any way. To think otherwise is shallow and disingenuous. I now vote on conviction on issues. My faith isn’t based on the best candidate for our local farmers and our local economy. Because @hallieshoffner isn’t running on a Republican ticket doesn’t make her “perverse and utterly corrupt” Evil is evident on both sides. Tom Cotton supports issues I disagree with, and I vote my conscience. I’m not asking any politician to be my savior. Nor am I trying to convince you, or anyone for that matter.

The closure of Delta Peanut in Jonesboro is devastating, and with peanut harvest here, this is an emergency for Northeast Arkansas agriculture. We don’t know exactly what happened yet, and I’m not going to speculate. But I know what I would be doing if I were Arkansas’s U.S. Senator tonight. I’d be on the phone with USDA, lenders, processors, warehouses and every major peanut buyer I could reach trying to find a home for this crop and protect these farmers. I’d be working with state leaders to figure out what can be done for the 120 workers and families facing the loss of their jobs. Farmers have crops in the field. They have operating loans to pay.
