On "Who do I find to be an honest broker?"? No one, really. I read a wide range of opinions to get the full scope, but everyone has an underlying opinion they're trying to shape (including Charlie Kirk, who I watched semi-regularly). I used to do it with leftist Youtube, then I realized none of them were acting in good faith and collectively, they wanted America to fail.
If I HAD to pick something, it would probably be
@michaeljknowles. But both him and
@MattWalshBlog come across as too smug sometimes (I always say Matt gets the low-hanging fruit right, but struggles hard with any type of nuance...In some ways, a mirror-image of James).
@JohnDoyle clips have been good of late, because he is giving kind of the history of the neocons. The guys who have taken over Kirk's show are GENERALLY okay, but usually just for a clip or two (depends on the guest). Hit or miss.
@RazorFist is a strong voice that is good at calling out nonsense, but he posts irregularly. Probably the "most honest" broker I can think of. I enjoyed some of the Jordan Peterson stuff, but I understand he's having health issues. Megyn Kelly was a guilty pleasure from old-school Fox, until she started defending Candace. But that just demonstrates how easy is to be a bad faith actor in this space.
The best thing to do? Read the comment sections and see what people are saying. I knew woke capitalism wasn't going to last because they always had to suppress comment sections. The comment sections have a lot more votes than the content creator.
On Tucker: Tucker is already an irrelevant figure and a lot of his support was completely manufactured (astroturfed). The neocon sphere continues to QT and comment on every crazy thing he says and every goofy guest he has on, but a lot of us have essentially moved past him, so it's kind of like picking the lowest fruit hanging from the tree. The same thing goes for Granny Groyper, Candace, Alex Jones and the rest of the low-quality slop space these people occupy. At this point, commenting on them just gives them the oxygen they need.
If Tucker had influence, you would see a massive blackpill effect in the Republican party and that isn't happening. He was soundly rejected at the last TP USA speaking event (the last two, he has tried pitching Islam to Republicans and that isn't happening) and they are mostly all in on Vance. Frankly, I'm waiting for someone to knock on Tucker's door and put him in handcuffs, exposing his paid operation for what it is. I suspect that time is coming.
On your appeal-to-authority hangup: You're saying you don't see James Lindsay as an authority figure, yet you're saying he doesn't owe anyone a discussion or explanation. That's...interesting and conflicting. The mark of an intellectual is stirring up thought, then having your ideas challenged and then having them hold up or admitting where there are flaws. That disqualifies James, especially when he is readily accessible on this platform. And ESPECIALLY when he fails to bring up very obvious events that are shaping the current discourse (which I consider to be either "lying by omission" or not knowing they exist...neither is good if your existence is based around shaping opinions or selling your intellectualism).
James' behavior on Twitter is something that completely negates any sense of good faith he might have. And honestly, I have seen a number of people say they respect his work, but hate his behavior on here (one of whom is one of my favorite accounts on this site and may very well be responsible ). He is intentionally trying to put himself on the losing end of the discussion (much like Tucker or your typical 3rd rate podcaster), then crying wolf to draw attention to it. It happened during the past debate on affordability and it's not getting much better, with him trying to conflate people who are legitimately and rightfully angry with true conspiracy theorists and grifters. You can see his attempt to invoke Hitler last night as an example (a very leftist tactic, if I do say so). Sorry you're getting fooled THAT badly, but he is free to dispute that at any time.
And there's no "bee-in-the bonnet" with him specifically. His opinions move almost in lockstep with the Babylon Bee guys and Jeremy Boreing. In Jeremy's case, he is trying to do the long-winded podcast/interview route and I expect that to continue as Vance gets closer to being president in 2028. The one thing I give James is he's probably smarter than those clowns. Watch their reactions the next Vance speech or the next time Trump does something they don't like. It's almost coordinated. And in Joel Berry's case, there isn't a shred of intelligence there, so he's literally just trying to imitate the others. Have a look at his comment section the next bad hot take he tries. It would be a LOT worse if he hadn't blocked so many people.
On the Federal Reserve and the Immigration Act of 1990: It's not my job to propose a solution, but it IS my job to identify the downstream effects these issues have and how they contribute to the discourse. It should be yours as well. Neocons fail to see either as problem and conveniently ignore them. They literally put their fingers in their ears and scream "I'M A PRINCIPLED CONSERVATIVE, LALALALALALA".
I actually hate the "Heritage America" discussion, but we definitely need to talk about the government (by design) opening the flood of legal immigration in 1990 and the support that neocons generally have for it. Charlie Kirk was one of the voices that screamed loudly about winding down legal immigration.
The Fed? Completely politicized, actively picks winners and losers in the market (mostly Democrats), has no real oversight (while arguably being more powerful than the president), is responsible for destroying buying power for people on the low end of the K-shaped economy, but usually given a pass in regular discourse. Neocons like to argue for "free market Capitalism", but you have a central bank ensuring a desired outcome by manipulating fiat currency. Sure doesn't sound like "free market Capitalism", does it?
Ok, I want to know who you find as an honest broker these days. Name names.
On Lindsey, I dont know where you get that I see him as an authority figure, I sure as hell don't. He's a commentator I find interesting, that's it. Doesnt mean I've dedicaded my brain to him.. And yeah, whether you have a paranoid sense of him infiltrating some fantasy of coherent political right, or dissident right, or conservative consensus, I've got news, there is no such thing. The "right," "conservative", whatever, has wide range of positions with lots of nuance, and plenty of nut job idiots and closet leftists as well. Donald Trump was a Democrat, and has been all over the map on positions. Consistent mostly on two. Immigration and Iran.
Yes, opinions move and coalesce, but that doesnt mean they're right, or permanent. I think history will show support for Isreal, for instance, is absolutely the right path in the ME. My opinion, but the Overton window can shift, entirely detached from what is true or just. The OW is not my guide to anything. The Tucker type shift is temporary. It wont stand the time test of truth.
Honestly, kind of weird you think Lindsey owes you a discussion
On Vance, he has tacked left on government power and solutions lately. I like Vance but doesn't mean he shouldn't be tested with opposition to some of his commentary. If he continues in that direction, yes, he will continue to get pushback. His Tucker love is a problem. I still think he's prob the best candidate right now, but..
Tucker is a lead weight on the right and its getting worse. His crash is coming, but could take long enough to cause lots of damage. His goal is exactly that.
Tell me a solution for the Fed or immigration. If it's abolish the Fed it's not happening, or expecting Congress to fix immigration in an intelligent way, again, not happening. Not excusing it, agree with you on it, but ain't happening. Reality.
I feel like you have a couple of key issues and a bee in the bonnet about Lindsey. I mean fair enough, you make good points.
