Banking unions were furious this week as it emerges employers are now expecting workers to come in and do the jobs they’re being paid for.

This Palestinian abomination is NOT a symbol of Remembrance. Take a moment to consider that those most likely to wear/display it were responsible for this at the Battle of Britain memorial recently.
🇵🇸 Palestine poppy SELLS OUT after right-wing media backlash! A Palestine-themed remembrance poppy has completely sold out after criticism from right-wing media outlets sparked a huge surge in demand. The badge was created by British doctor Abdul Qader Ismail to commemorate the hundreds of thousands murdered in Palestine, to show solidarity with the Palestinian people and to raise awareness of their decades-long struggle against occupation. Designed in the colours of the Palestinian flag, the poppy is also intended as a symbol of remembrance and solidarity until Palestinians achieve freedom. However, the initiative has sparked controversy among right-wing commentators, with critics accusing it of politicising or hijacking Britain's traditional Remembrance Day commemorations. Ironically, the backlash appears to have had the opposite effect to discouraging sales. According to Ismail, demand had almost completely dried up over the past year until several right-wing media outlets began covering the badge. He said sales then went "through the roof", forcing him to announce that the poppy was temporarily out of stock. The badges are sold on a not-for-profit basis, with a small contribution going towards charities and organisations supporting Palestinians. 🔗 Order or check for restocking: palestinepoppy.com/

So many. The Millwall winner in 2018, the double against that lot, finishing a sweeping counter at Bolton, the Newcastle volley, the Newcastle hat-trick, the third vs Man C, the cheeky backheel assist for Emi v Hull. Best free transfer ever 🇫🇮🐐 #ncfc

Leave the children alone FFS 🤦‍♂️
🚨226 children, some as young as 11 years old, are about to be given £500 worth of shopping vouchers by the UK Government in order to undertake a puberty blockers trial, placing them on a pathway to infertility. This is the medical scandal of our time. jamesesses.co.uk/p/state-san…

Ridiculous pro-Pals are shutting down a defence company in Rochdale because it makes F-35 parts. This is a joint programme with allies to make jets that protect us all. But look at her calling security “b*stards” for trying to do their job. Pathetic.

I will never understand this mindset, which is pervasive among sections of the left. It essentially says that we should ignore the destruction of beautiful things, including handsome old public buildings, on the grounds that, hey, the government’s economic policy is also causing damage. What garbage. I suspect she wouldn’t display the same attitude if it were a mosque being burnt to the ground (not that anyone should defend the destruction of mosques).
A nice old building burns, and so the pearl-clutching begins. Where were these pearl clutchers when austerity was wrecking a generation? Why does one town hall grab their attention but millions of schools, hospitals, and homes dilapidated by neoliberalism are of no importance?
Community note
France's level of public social spending was third highest in the world at 30.6% of GDP in 2024. Excluding the pandemic, it is slightly down from its 31.9% high in 2014. Total public spending is 57.2%, second highest among large countries not at war and near all-time highs. ourworldindata.org/grapher/social… ourworldindata.org/grapher/histor
