This is the McDonald’s at the Minneapolis airport. This is what happens when the min wage is too high. Liberals think they are helping people, but they’re not.

The airport is surrounded in part by Minneapolis. Employers at the airport have to stay competitive with wages. And the fact there are screens instead of employees speaks for itself.

Or—and hear me out now—it's what happens when corporate overlords don't want to pay for labor.

The kiosks have been there since 2017, when ** checks notes** min wage was $9/hr. Also, the airport isn’t in Minneapolis so your hot take is all wrong.

no minimum wage would be low enough to cost less than a mass-produced self-serve kiosk. the problem is profit motive, not minimum wage

So if we have to order ourselves, will prices go down? Didn’t think so. Do you always shill for billionaires and corps or do you just enjoy the taste of leather?

I blame McDonald's greedy executives and McDonald's greedy franchise owners for that. The minimum wage should always be increased because the cost of living always goes up.

This is what happens under the lazy grift of capitalism. So weird how McDonalds workers in Denmark make 45k a year (over 20+ per hour) and their Big Macs cost less than ours. That also shows how you are full of shit. But you already knew that. Fucking clown

Minneapolis minimum wage is $15.57/hour. In Denmark, McDonald’s workers get $22/hour AND 6 weeks vacation—and the food costs almost the exact same as it does in Minneapolis. Your tweet isn't the win you think it is.

The minimum wage hasn’t changed in 15 years. When were these invented and installed?

You’re arguing for a minimum wage of… zero? Capitalism in America started with slavery and here we are: kiosks that provide free labor. Surprised? Blaming this on a livable wage is pathetic. The problem is and has always been capitalism

They have these machines in Oklahoma and our minimum wage is $7.25.

We have those kiosks at McDonalds in East Tennessee and the minimum wage here is still $7.25.

Yes, people have higher paying jobs than working at McDonald’s. Minimum wage in the airport is $13.25, lower than Minneapolis proper.

Due respect, Ingrid, it is technology, not a living wage, that is replacing the global workforce and it’s a problem we can’t solve without focus.

I saw this setup at the Champs-Élysées McDonals in 2017, don't know why it took another 7 years to make it to the USA.

This is only bad in the short run. The automation of rote agricultural labor led to an unparalleled abundance of food all over the world. The automation of service jobs will do the same for things we can't yet imagine. Perhaps it will increase the amount of creativity in the world. In the meantime, government subsidies will increase for people who can't find work.

Wow, 1000+ people liked this tweet. I guess you also believe the reason McDonald's installed a drive-thru kiosk with the speaker/mic instead of a person taking orders is because of minimum wage. Or is it a business decision?

No matter what politicians legislate, the true minimum wage is always $0.00.

Everyone else has fact-checked you on the other things, but I'm going to point out here that we also have a *very tight* labor market right now and fast food places that don't want to pay people fairly are scrambling for workers all over the country.

This touchscreen is in Virginia, where the minimum wage is $11 per hour... Try not to reduce complex issues to over-simplified binary issues of causation -- the world is much more complex than that

If you get rid of in-person check out lines at McDonald’s, customers will be forced to learn how to use kiosks to put in orders. They’ll adapt & order from them if it’s the only option & they want some Micky D’s. Yes, some loss in personal touch. Will prob see more of these…
