A legal reckoning for Big Tech has been taking place this month in Los Angeles ⚖️📱 For nearly 30 years, the #BigTech platforms have been shielded from responsibility for the dangerous design of their platforms, as real-world harms continue to rise. This month, the first lawsuit of 1,500+ cases in LA County is heading to trial, and the leaders of Meta and other big tech companies will testify about whether they knowingly addicted Americans online - causing health harms for kids, as far as suicide. These trials, paired with growing acknowledgment from lawmakers that big tech’s legal immunity is outdated, is a key moment for justice. Today, the House Homeland Security Committee held an “accountability” hearing on our immigration agencies. After 3.5 hours of testimony from ICE head Todd Lyons, CBP chief Rodney Scott, and USCIS director Joseph Edlow—very little accountability actually happened. Credit where it’s due: Issue One thanks Chair Garbarino for holding the hearing. That matters. It’s a first step. But if we’re serious about accountability, we need more: --Independent investigations without federal interference --Real answers—not talking points DHS funding expires at the end of this week. But this week, Donald Trump doubled down on calls to nationalize elections, telling Republican lawmakers that if states “can’t run an election,” they should “do something about it.” That same day, Trump’s former advisor Steve Bannon claimed ICE would be stationed outside polling places. Let’s be clear: Trump’s 2020 election fraud claims were investigated, litigated, and relitigated. Courts rejected them. Republican election officials rejected them. Facts rejected them. Using lies about “fraud” to justify federal takeover of elections should alarm every American—no matter your party. Protecting our free and fair elections takes all of us—speaking out, staying engaged, and refusing to accept fear or lies as the price of voting.

When Americans lose faith in elections, democracy crumbles. Yesterday’s FBI raid on a Georgia election center—where hundreds of 2020 ballot boxes were seized against the county’s wishes—fits a troubling pattern of federal interference in state-run elections. Let’s be clear: the Fulton County election was already litigated and resolved. Georgia’s Republican governor, secretary of state, and other top election officials all affirmed the results in 2020. Attempts to relitigate those results were rejected—again and again. Just days earlier, the Attorney General suggested immigration enforcement in Minnesota could be reduced if the state handed over complete, unredacted voter rolls. Free and fair elections depend on trust, the rule of law, and respect for state authority. That integrity must be protected—no matter who is in power.

Over the past week, voices from across the country—citizens, community leaders, journalists, and lawmakers—have pressed for transparency and accountability in how federal immigration enforcement is carried out. That pressure is producing real results. This is accountability in action. Keep pushing for transparency, accountability, and protections for civil liberties. Your voices matter.
