our local @marksandspencer has sadly taken away the cafe & the customer loos ! In the cafes place are lots of self service tills - Losing humanity 馃- Coach used to go once a week for people
to do their shop & have a natter with coffee & some food - no longer
I refuse to use self service. I refuse to be filmed on the premise I鈥檓 a thief. I refuse because there鈥檚 always a problem. I refuse because it鈥檚 putting people out of a job. I refuse because I鈥檇 prefer to speak to a human & for some people it may be the only contact they have.
If I鈥檓 asked to use a self-checkout at my local store, I always ask if I鈥檓 entitled to staff discount? The reply is always no, and so I use a maned till instead.
Whilst you still can - vote with your feet and use a maned till.
Yes. I deliberately use a manned till even if I鈥檝e only got one item. I can鈥檛 be arsed arguing with a computer about whether I鈥檝e put my own shopping in the bag correctly. 馃槀
They鈥檝e just installed self service tills at my local co-op. You go in there and ask for service, they look at you like you just asked them to sacrifice their first born for you. 馃う馃徏 don鈥檛 they realise they鈥檒l likely be out of a job if not for people like me
Called at my local Co-op and we were told only cash payments allowed at the assisted check out - anyone paying by card has to go to the self service. Two people put down their baskets on the counter and walked out.
Yes. Example. Old man in front of me. Young cashier recognised & said hadn鈥檛 seen for ages. Man had been ill had had 90th birthday not seen anyone apart from nurse for ages. They had a nice chat. Man said thank you. I praised cashier for giving him the time to chat.
YES - If I enter a store and see nothing but self-scan tills open I turn around and leave.
To me it signifies that the stores are circling the drain and about to close.
At my local M&S you've got 2 staff on the tills and 6 staff pointing you towards the machines or helping folk who can't get the self service machine to work...
Self checkouts are difficult for me. Hearing aids are not good at identifying where a bleep or a voice is coming from and I can鈥檛 lip read a disembodied voice in any case.
Absolutely. I've had to put an entire week's shopping through a self-checkout because there wasn't a single manned till open. They're fine for a pint of milk and a loaf of bread, but trying to juggle 拢150 worth of shopping on a tiny bagging area is ridiculous.
Yes. I used a manned checkout earlier today. Our local tiny COOP has gone self check out - Mostly senior citizens during the day. Shop was empty & has been a lot lately. Big mistake. Older people want to be served & have a brief chat. We're humans.
YES WITH A CAPITAL LETTER 馃挴
WE THE SOFT TECHNOLOGY THEY USING FOR THEIR OWN BENEFITS. NOT OURS
Be aware how much of yourselves you prepared to surrender to greedy #TECHNOLOGY before too late
If Stop not put on #TECHNOLOGY there will be a no going back
Always wait for cashier
The amount of people they have to have manning the self checkout because they go wrong or people don鈥檛 know how to use them you might as well just have a few extra checkouts
Supermarkets claim this is meant to speed up operations and help customers leave the store faster. From my perspective as a customer, it feels like I鈥檝e been hired to do the work.
Yes. It鈥檚 just greed from the Supermarkets. I no longer shop in Sainsbury鈥檚 because I have to scan my shopping and then prove I鈥檝e done it by scanning a receipt. They want to cut wages and inconvenience customers.
I absolutely refuse to use self checkouts, while an employee is paid to watch me do their job and then have the audacity to to check my receipt to ensure I didn鈥檛 steal anything!
Yes. For some employees it is their livelihood.
If not, customers shopping should be discounted on the self serving tills.
Prices are kept high with ever shrinking portions, people are made jobless, while top bosses make millions in the bonuses.
Yes. Shopping for many people is also a form of human interaction & for many who live in relative loneliness b鈥檆 of age or other circumstances shopping is an important social activity.
My heart says yes, my brain says yes.
My ongoing experiences with @asda says no. Using the self checkouts I find it easier to notice when an item scans at above the displayed price. Which at ASDA is too often to be accidental or from neglect.
Yes.
I refuse to self scan.
I piss myself at all the righteous shopper who self scan everything into the trolley, only to have unpack everything so a shop assistant can check they have paid for everything.
Can't wait for the last two days before Christmas it'll be chaos.
They have. I never use self service, even if it means waiting ages, I will always get shop assistant. No assistants about, I ask to get till opened am always obliged. No people to serve, I leave the shopping and exit.
