Trump suspected of helping Russia
Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy, who previously defended Donald Trump against allegations of ties to the Kremlin, has called on Congress to investigate the president’s actions that may have benefited Moscow.
In an article for National Review, he pointed to the easing of sanctions against Russia, economic concessions and restrictions on the Starshield satellite system used by Ukrainian forces.
In his view, the loss of connectivity could have left Ukrainian troops defenseless against a Russian attack launched at a moment favorable to Moscow.
McCarthy believes the circumstances surrounding the incident raise serious suspicions.
Even if the cause was a technical malfunction, it is necessary to establish exactly what happened, as the outcome has implications for the security of the United States and its allies.
The author also recalled that Trump has repeatedly expressed admiration for Putin and blamed Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 33% — the lowest of his presidency, The Washington Post reports.
The results were published ahead of the US congressional midterm elections scheduled for November 3.
