🇨🇦 Rising bond yields can make government debt more expensive as it gets refinanced. The awkward part? A bigger interest bill doesn’t buy another hospital bed, repair a bridge or hire a teacher. It pays more for money already borrowed. Politicians get the announcement when they spend it. Taxpayers get the renewal notice.

🇨🇦 Rising bond yields can lower what buyers can borrow. A seller sees a smaller offer and calls it a lowball. The buyer sees the monthly payment and calls it their limit. Neither has changed their mind about the house. The financing changed. The bond market doesn’t attend your open house. It still gets a vote on the price.

🇨🇦 You can make every mortgage payment on time and still get a more expensive loan at renewal. No missed payments. No extra borrowing. No kitchen renovation. Bond yields rise, lenders reprice, and your perfect payment history doesn’t preserve your old rate. That’s the quiet squeeze: paying more to finance a life you already bought.

🇨🇦 The most expensive phrase in a struggling household is “maybe next year.” The dentist. The extra bedroom. The second child. Retirement. Put enough of those decisions on hold and you haven’t just reduced spending. You’ve rearranged a life. That’s my test for any government claiming an economic recovery: Can people finally make the plans they keep postponing?

🇨🇦 Imagine taking a second job to cover the bills. Your income rises. Your spending holds up. The economic data looks healthier. You’ve also lost your evenings. Before politicians celebrate resilient consumers, ask how much extra work that resilience required. An economy hasn’t necessarily improved because its people stopped taking Saturdays off.
New contracts for Canadian suppliers. Good jobs for Canadian workers. Paycheques staying in Canadian communities. For the first time in four decades, VIA Rail passenger cars will be built in Canada.

🇨🇦 Nunavut’s population is just 42,000. Melanie Joly says 125,000 jobs will be created there. Do you believe her? 🤔 👇🚨

🇨🇦 Friday night economic test: After paying the bills, can you afford to do something or are you just recovering enough to earn next week’s bill payments? A country can keep people employed while leaving them very little life outside employment. “Working Canadians” should describe who we are. Not everything we have time and money to be.

Ontario can find $1M for Ukraine’s energy grid. Can it find the same urgency for patients here? Nobody expects one cancelled donation to fix healthcare. But expecting a province to get the basics right at home shouldn’t be controversial. 🇨🇦

🇨🇦 Our kids should leave home to explore the world..not because building a life here is out of reach. A job that pays the bills. A home they can afford. A future close to family. That’s a Canadian dream worth fighting for. Not the one in @MarkJCarney ‘s speeches 🎤

🇨🇦 Since the Liberals took office in November 2015, the Canadian dollar has lost roughly 25% of its domestic purchasing power. What $100 bought then costs about $134 now. That means a 30% pay increase over that period would still leave you slightly behind inflation. A bigger salary. Less buying power. Before Ottawa celebrates how much more Canadians earn, ask how much more Canadians can afford. Apparently, getting ahead now requires checking whether you’ve actually moved.

Calculated from Statistics Canada’s all-items CPI: 127.1 in November 2015 → 169.8 in August 2026. Prices rose 33.6%, equivalent to a 25.1% purchasing-power loss. This measures the period, not how much inflation was caused by federal policy.

🇨🇦 A mortgage renewal can hurt someone who doesn’t own a home. A homeowner’s payment rises. They cancel the cleaner. The cleaner loses a client. That’s how a banking story becomes a small-business story. You can have no mortgage, no credit-card balance and excellent financial habits and still lose income because your customers have debt.

🇨🇦 There’s an awkward question behind every “Buy Canadian” campaign: Can Canadians afford the Canadian option? If supporting a local business requires customers to pay a premium, ask what made that business so expensive to run. Patriotism can encourage a purchase. It can’t keep topping up the customer’s bank account.

🇨🇦 Trump wants a major potash deal with Belarus. Saskatchewan’s premier warns the shipments would have to travel through Russia. Apparently, buying fertilizer from your neighbour is a problem. Routing it through Russia is exploring your options. For Canada, the danger goes beyond one lost order: once customers build alternative supply chains, winning them back can be harder than keeping them.

$23,701 in my TFSA. $298 in net deposits. Yes, you read that correctly. That result reflects investment performance over time—not a guaranteed return and the journey included plenty of ups and downs. Trading on @Wealthsimple without paying commissions helped me keep more of my gains. The chart shows the roller coaster. Everybody likes the result. Fewer enjoy the ride. 🎢
