An eyewitness says the suspect was being chased by ICE and apparently refused to stop. Given the angle of the ICE vehicle in the post-incident video and how banged up the suspect’s car is on the passenger side, it seems likely there was a collision.
If you refuse to stop and cause a collision, don't be surprised when there are bullet holes in your vehicle. You cannot weaponize your vehicle.
Hopefully DHS makes a statement on the incident soon.
🛑 Austin ICE Suspect Was in a Vehicle 🛑
Video has emerged of the suspect in his vehicle. It appears Austin’s DEI-hire police chief was incorrect. He was not on foot. He was in his vehicle. Unfortunately, there is no audio with this clip.
Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis runs APD. The shooting is still the North Austin scene at Anderson Square in the 7000 block of West Anderson Lane, near Research Boulevard and U.S. 183. Local reporting at the scene described a blue Toyota Corolla under an overpass with passenger-side damage and what looked like bullet holes.
APD has said no Austin officer fired, and Texas DPS has said ICE is handling the federal investigation. City hall can brief the cameras. The tape still decides whether the man was walking or sitting behind a wheel.
