In the years after he returned from the war, George fell in love with Delvina Rogers, the younger sister of his neighborhood friend, Tony. During the war, Delvina, or Del as he called her, had worked in a factory that made flight jackets for pilots, and she later worked as a seamstress for clothing companies.
