I've had a few people make uninformed comments when I write about our "activist judge" problem in Canada.
When I write about activist judges, it's in the context of the political and legal term used to describe judges who base their rulings on personal policy preferences or broader societal implications rather than strict, original interpretations of the law or constitution. It is often positioned as the antonym to judicial restraint
In Canada in particular , the term frequently arises in relation to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Critics argue that the judiciary's reliance on the "living tree" doctrine allows judges to effectively make law and dictate highly contested public policy that was formerly debated in Parliament.
Trudeau spent a decade filling our judiciary with activist judges, including the Chief Justice of our Supreme Court, Richard Wagner.
This is particularly problematic as the Liberals now try to unwind the mess they made of our bail and sentencing laws. They can make all of the changes they want, but the current crop of judges will just ignore them.

I believe that the politicians in charge of blunders like this should have their pay and pensions docked for the results of their blunders.
For example, if a project goes 50% over budget, then 50% of their pay and/or pension gets clawed back.
Put a policy like that in place and I think you'd be surprised how many blunders like this we would avoid.

This is yet another glaring example of the incompetence of ministers like @SeanFraserMP and @gary_srp. This wasn't the result of some random traffic stop, this woman was arrested after a months long investigation.
Her actions have caused significant danger to the public and given her history, there is nothing to indicate that she wouldn't continue on while out on bail.
The cops involved in this investigation must be pulling their hair out over this Insanity.
You truly cannot make this up. In a major undercover operation dubbed Project Red Zone, Peel Regional Police seized 23 illegal firearms, more than 950 rounds of ammunition and 824 grams of cocaine. Investigators say the weapons were linked to 14 GTA shootings, including a fatal March 2024 shooting in Mississauga.
Akshaya Srikanthan, 24, faces 18 charges, including 11 counts of firearm trafficking and seven counts of drug trafficking. She appeared in court and was granted bail.
Police spent months working undercover to get illegal guns off the streets. The case now raises an obvious question about Canada’s bail system: with allegations this serious, what does it take for an accused firearms trafficker to be held in custody pending trial?

By taxing the richest 0.3% of Canadians, just some 133,000 people, Canada could raise over $1 billion per year, the Parliamentary Budget Officer confirmed today.
Those revenues could go a long way towards fixing our broken healthcare system, building affordable housing, or creating a national public grocery network that would drive down the cost of groceries.
No selling of our airports required. Just the ultra rich paying their fair share.

Public sector unions however, have never made sense. What are you protecting government employees from? They have become a vehicle for unrelated political advocacy and disruption.

🚨 “I’m going to shoot all of you!” Canada Must Treat a Death Threat on a Toronto Sidewalk as a Crime
A free country is judged by what it allows on an ordinary street. Circulating video from Toronto shows a man wearing a People’s Republic of China flag patch confronting Falun Gong practitioners at a public display, grabbing banners that read “Stop Persecution of Falun Gong” and “Stop CCP Transnational Repression,” and leaving poles and signs on the ground. On the original audio, he can be heard saying: “The Ethnic Unity Law is now in effect. I’m going to shoot all of you.”
That is not political argument. It is an alleged death threat, delivered in Canada, against people exercising a Charter right to worship and to protest. A Chinese statute has no force on a Toronto sidewalk. A man invoking Beijing’s law as a license to execute believers in Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance is importing a police-state slogan onto Canadian soil.
Toronto Police Service should preserve every second of the original audio, identify the speaker, and determine whether the words meet the Criminal Code test for uttering threats, alongside possible assault and mischief. The Ontario Attorney General and federal public-safety officials should not treat this as a noisy quarrel between “community groups.” If the speaker is linked to United Front work or consular direction, that belongs in an RCMP and CSIS file.
Canada already knows the pattern: harassment of Falun Gong practitioners, pressure on families, and hoax bomb threats that disrupted Shen Yun in Toronto this year. A filmed threat to have people shot is the moment when “awareness” must become enforcement.
Investigate the video. Transcribe the audio. Charge whoever broke the law. Give the targeted practitioners a public accounting. A democracy does not prove its values by lecturing Beijing. It proves them by making clear that “I’m going to shoot all of you” is a crime in Canada, not a talking point from another country’s statute book.

The conservative parties have called on B.C. to "comply" with Trump, shared a map of Western Canada as a "Protectorate of the United States" and told Trump's ambassador they'd put American booze back on our shelves as a "measure of good faith." That's the direction they want to take this province.
I will never roll over. We'll build B.C. strong by building it right here.

Well Dave, statistics don't mean anything to people who can't get a family doctor or wait 14 hours in the emergency room.
Despite having a high ratio of doctors per BC still experiences numerous gaps and shortages, especially of regular family physicians due to administrative burdens, an aging workforce, and regional distribution challenges.
B.C. now has more doctors per capita than anywhere else in Canada, and 800 American doctors, nurses and health professionals have answered our call to join our public system.
Our Build B.C. Strong plan will triple that recruitment drive and bring even more of them here.

Choosing Communist China as a trading partner over the U.S. isn't just a bad idea – it's a trap. Xi doesn't do trade deals in good faith. He lies, he cheats, and he steals while everyone else pays the price.
Every inch of market access Canada hands Beijing is another inch of access for Xi's hackers, his state-backed "companies," and his thugs to embed themselves inside Canadian industry and Canadian systems – until they're positioned to gut Canadian production, kill Canadian jobs, and make Canada dependent on China for everything from steel to semiconductors to medicine.
That's the endgame. Need convincing? Look at what happened in America! Bill Clinton‘s big plan to normalize trade with China didn’t democratize China or help American workers. Instead, we’ve lost 5 million jobs and 90,000 factories since 1994 as a direct result of countries like Communist China dumping their low-quality, subsidized crap into the U.S. market. Canada gets left holding a hollowed-out industrial base and the unmet aspirations of millions of families who will wonder why their government has forgotten about them.
And it won’t stop there. Every dollar and every ounce of trust Canada pours into Beijing is a dollar and an ounce of trust it's pulling out of its relationship with its most important, most powerful partner and ally: the United States. You don't get to have it both ways. Cozy up to Xi, and you degrade the most productive, most integrated economic relationship Canada has ever had.
Here's what people keep ignoring. Canada ALREADY has the best tariff treatment of any country in the world. Prime Minister Carney has said that himself, more than once. The new Section 338 tariffs only apply to 5% of goods coming in from Canada – a mere 0.19% of all U.S. imports. Meanwhile, Canada keeps tariffs and quotas on U.S. cars and dairy, while slashing tariffs on Chinese EVs from 100% to 6.1% – rolling out the red carpet for the very regime that wants to hollow Canada out from the inside.
The facts speak for themselves. America's track record is mutual prosperity – strengthening good, dependable partners while standing against dictators, bullies, and thugs. Communist China's track record is blackmail and extortion that serves Communist China and its extraordinarily wealthy leaders, especially Xi Jinping.
America has allies. Communist China takes hostages. Don't sell out Canadian sovereignty for 30 pieces of counterfeit silver.

I really don't understand who would buy from a real estate broker that cheers at the misfortune of others. Relax estate investors provide much needed rental housing and it's the small investors that are getting hurt, not the big corporations.
We should also remember there are a lot of hard working people who are underwater and losing their principle residences as well.
This guy is not the only one, but he is certainly one of the most prolific.
I heard the Government of Canada will soon be offering MAID to failed real estate investors and speculators who are upside down in their properties.
