Cigarettes are modernist & vapes are late-capitalist, bc a cigarette has an inherent duration which requires you to take a break, and allows for contemplation or conversation, whereas a vape can be hit again at any chosen time, without interrupting the tempo of postmodernity

Sorry but this is my problem with philosophy and dialectics, its just shower thoughts where you come up the conclusion and then work backwards rather than an argument eith any evidence.

By this logic a cigarette is worse cuz u have to do it in a chosen window of freedom vs whenever u want 🤷‍♂️

But as Hegel said, freedom is not caprice. It is only under certain restrictions that freedom can flourish

A vape lets the individual march to the beat of their own drum, which makes the cigarette positively medieval in comparison

Cigarettes are sexier, they allow me to be depressed in a more aloof and existentialist manner

Yes. Cigarettes, like pour-over coffee, require presence and breaking away from the tempo, whereas vapes are the 8-cup coffeepot, always in-flux, needing no mind. Rejecting postmodernity by smoking acoustic.

You have no idea what it’s like to be a zoomer who smokes. People treat me like some kinda anomaly. They seriously believe that vapes just have none of the downsides.

Every kind of drink is now available in a zero-alcohol formulation… so where can we buy nicotine-free cigs? Who knows? But we can certainly buy concentrated nicotine products to stay addicted while losing all the considerable pleasure of inhaling hot smoke!

A vape is an attempt to have cigarettes without cigarettes.

The Smoke and the Cloud — The cigarette burns slow, a measured end, Its spark announces pause, a brief release; Each drag a breath where thought and time suspend, And in that break, we sculpt a kind of peace. But vapes are endless—diffused, without decay, A loop unbroken, whispering through the crowd; No ember’s death, no ash to mark the day, Just frictionless inhaling, soft and loud. The ritual has faded into mist, Convenience now the altar where we pray; Our moments blurred, our patience gone amiss, We breathe forever, but we’ve lost delay. The smoke was time itself made visible— The cloud is commerce, endless, digital.

Except that in their modernist heyday you could chain smoke cigarettes anywhere, inherent duration be dammed. No, the real story here is that vaping is just the next logical step in the mechanization that began when someone decided to use a pipe instead of just rolling up some leaves. Or for that matter to wrap the leaves in paper instead of one of the leaves.

Late post modernity hates contemplation. Repeatedly vape and screens hits to the brain to knock it down and paralyze thinking. The comfortable palsy of the senses.

truish. but not much contemplation nor conversation with a cig. The quality of these will also be wanting. 5 to 7 minutes: "back to work" or "back inside". The tobacco pipe endures across centuries, though its use dwindles proportionally with the ranks of serious, thinking men.

“Worrying is a cheap replacement for caring. Complaining is a cheap replacement for fixing. Outrage is a cheap replacement for supporting. It’s easy to tear down. It’s much harder to build up.” That perfectly sums up the shallowness of our times:
