This Albanese government mass migration “crackdown” should never have been needed.
A student on a temporary visa should never have been allowed to import their entire extended family. Grandpa, Grandma, Mum, dad, kids, and whoever else they can park on a dependent visa.
Then they all stay, work, claim, and jam hospitals, schools, housing and welfare services while Australians wait.
An average of 1,580 claims for protection are being lodged onshore every month, mostly by people from China, India and Malaysia who have come to Australia on a student or visitor visa.
Last financial year a staggering 337,427 student visas were issued. Almost 46,000 of those were “secondary applicants” - family.
That’s not education.
That’s chain migration dressed up as a student visa.
Burke and Albanese opened the floodgates, watched net overseas migration explode, then spent six weeks arguing among themselves before postponing the announcement.
Now they front up and pretend they’re the ones fixing it.
They lurch from one self inflicted disaster to the next and deny they created the mess.
Typical of this government, they break it, delay it, then claim credit for taping it back together.
This isn’t leadership.
It’s damage control after the damage was already done.
We need this government gone and gone now.
