I recently wrote to the council leader, calling for resident exemption permits for LTNs.
Whilst traffic calming measures like LTNs are vital to tackle air pollution, they must be implemented in the most effective way.
Good to hear they will keep this option under consideration.
ALT Official House of Commons letter from Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP for Clapham & Brixton Hill to Councillor Martin Abrams, Leader of Lambeth Council, dated 17 June 2026. The MP congratulates Councillor Abrams on his appointment before outlining concerns about the effect of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) on residents living inside LTN boundaries. While acknowledging LTNs can reduce car use and improve air quality, the letter argues that some residents face significantly longer journeys to and from their homes, creating difficulties for working people, families, older residents and those with mobility needs. The letter requests consideration of a resident exemption permit for people who live within LTNs, allowing direct access to and from their properties while continuing to support broader traffic reduction objectives. The letter closes by asking for a response and is signed by Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP.
