That is all good advice. I may have violated #2 in Future In Doubt. I went back and forth on it for a while, but decided I liked it the way it is. But everything else here - rock solid.

When I see opening hooks like that, the rest of the paragraph best pull that weight. If the next sentence is something like, James lit his third cigarette, waiting for the call. Or Nothing like John's time in Special forces... I will put the book back and forget it.

First line of my WIP: “Did you say k*ll all of them?”
