Oh boy. Libertarians are so funny to me. They want freedom of the individual but require a large govt to enforce those freedoms. That alone conflicts with their entire ideology. That aside, the 4th of July remembers a declaration of independence from foreign control of land an ocean away for many reasons. Because of that independence and the two wars to maintain it, America has had 250 years of growth, struggle, legacy, etc. A birthday celebration is about celebrating more life and how that person or thing has impacted you or others. You don't have a birthday celebrating the fact someone was born. You celebrate them on a day that their life began. The same is true with the 4th of July. This really isn't hard. This is one of many reasons why Libertarians will be fence-sitters destined to be fettered to a legacy of complaining.

The Libertarian Party has become a disgrace to this great nation, and to its founding principles. Independence Day is about the unity of the 13 United States, who won for themselves, a new nation. They eventually established a new government, under the U.S. Constitution, and agreed to a perpetual Union. That Constitution provided a framework for a just government, where secession should never be necessary. Unfortunately, we have voted for more despotism throughout the centuries, but the mechanisms for reversing those mistakes still exist. How dare you disrespect our founders with your constant promotion and provocation of dissolution.
