Associate Professor St. Louis University School of Medicine researching #antiphospholipid Syndrome, mechanisms of blood clotting, next-gen #antithrombotics
Life is a melody, with enzymes as instruments and ligands as music directors. We show how two ligands binding to the same pocket of an enzyme can produce different melodies—the magic of allostery! Great job, Ponzar, Chinnaraj et al. @SLUbiochem, @HemeThrombBIDMC, and @UniPadova
Protein Disulfide Isomerase (PDI) is an exciting new target for the treatment of thrombosis.
This study uncovers the mechanistic basis by which two promising compounds, quercetin-3-O-rutinoside and bepristat-2a, regulate PDI. An important step toward the development of PDI-targeting drug.

🧐...By demonstrating distinct functional profiles of Type-I and Type-II anti-prothrombin autoantibodies in human plasma, we introduce a new concept: the Antiphospholipid Syndrome Autoantibody Atlas (APSAA)...💡🤯... Check it out... doi.org/10.1016/j.jtha.2024.…
How anti-prothrombin antibodies in Antiphospholipid Syndrome (#APS) affect blood coagulation remains unclear. 🧐In this new study, we show the importance of binding modalities for thrombin generation and its inactivation by activated protein C. jthjournal.org/article/S1538…
This is cool ! We made the cover of @BloodJournal !! 🎉 Great work by first author @DrKumar_Suresh and collaborators @vittorio_pengo, Flaumenhaft @HemeThrombBIDMC, and @wuccilab. Thanks to @SLUbiochem for support. I am pleased to see this idea becoming reality. Keep believing.
After a short hiatus, BME Seminar Series is back! Our next speaker is Dr. Pozzi who is presenting on the biophysics of blood coagulation and antiphospholipid syndrome. Come to learn captivating new insights and therapeutic strategies about blood coagulation!
@LabPozzi
I recently visited my alma mater @UniPadova, where I discussed advances in single-molecule biophysics and #smFRET 🔬🔬. I met many talented young scientists and was profoundly inspired by their passion for science. Thanks to the organizers for this memorable experience! 🙏
Vitamin K is a compound that is crucial for blood clotting.
Nobel Prize laureate Edward Doisy was the first to produce it in a pure form and established the distinction between vitamin K1 (shown) and vitamin K2. His work was important in treating bleeding in small children.
Today we approved two milestone treatments - the first cell-based gene therapies to treat sickle cell disease in patients 12 years and older. fda.gov/news-events/press-an…

Ligands for #platelet glycoproteins have undefined valency and batch variation.
Martin et al. show that trivalent #nanobodies (nb) activate GPVI, CLEC-2 and PEAR1 and a tetravalent nb activates FcgRIIA.
