Another one in the long grass - and might not even happen before the next GE.
NEW: The plan to overhaul SEND faces delays caused by the change in PM. The govt’s response to a major consultation and new laws outlining the changes were planned for November, but risk slipping as far as the new year. Story with @cazjwheeler inews.co.uk/news/politics/se…

Burnham's coup bank rolled far and wide.
NEW: Brentford FC co-owner bankrolled Andy Burnham’s leadership campaign. As the Prime Minister comes under pressure over potential UAE links, more details of his funding arrangements emerge. Burnham’s position is becoming increasingly untenable. Here’s what I’ve discovered:🧵

healey, aided by gormless lobby, cultivated a persona of a serious honest politician for decades. for some reason he showed his true self serving nature for andy burnham. fund it now or resign! that’s the position he took then and it should be the position he takes today.

If only we had the same PM and Government - it was far better
When I was in government, we were having serious conversations about AI risks. The challenge is separating what’s real from what’s hype. That’s why we need independent testing, better evidence and international cooperation to understand what’s really happening with AI.

Replying to @KuperSimon @FT
I agree with the sentiment but “economists don’t think it will reduce jobs” doesn’t give me the comfort I need as a policy maker. Better to pay attention and get ahead of it than just hoping for the best in my view.

Absolutely Darren Unfortunately Burnham is busy with tictoks and things that won't even happen during this Parliamentary term.
I keep raising the alarm bell about AI removing jobs, instead of enhancing them; and companies improving profits but workers losing their wages. I’m often told: there’s no evidence of AI disrupting the labour market. We have to shape AI in the interests of workers and the UK economy and not just wait to see what happens - these changes are coming whether we like it or not. We need to be both pro-tech and pro-worker. If too many workers lose their jobs and are unable to find alternative work to maintain their lifestyles we’ll have very serious societal problems to deal with.

From James Tibbitts writing for @LabourList "When asked for his position on the ownership following this scandal, [@andyburnham's] lack of critique for a club found guilty of cheating by an independent board – seemingly focused more on his fear of losing investment partners – has gone down like a cup of cold sick amongst the public. The ordinary person is not spending their day thinking about harms to investment in the Oxbridge tech-corridor. They are not looking at this situation through the same lens as Burnham has to. They see a club found guilty of financial doping, of cheating. They want justice and fairness. That is the beauty, in many ways, of sport. We all agree to play by the rules." Well, we all know that Burnham doesn't play by the rules, so this should come as no surprise.

No wonder they're all hiding - it's getting murkier every day....
🚨BURNHAM DONOR TIED TO SECOND FOOTBALL CLUB AS DOCUMENTS SURFACE Journalist Jody McIntyre says he has received documents linking a major donor to Prime Minister Andy Burnham with another English football club, on top of earlier reports that Labour peer Lord David Blunkett funded Burnham's Makerfield campaign while serving as vice-chair of the United Arab Emirates All-Party Parliamentary Group. Burnham, who has already praised Manchester City's Abu Dhabi owners as a “huge partner" and said he would be "really concerned" to lose them after the club was found guilty of financial breaches, now faces fresh questions over how many foreign-linked wallets helped put him in Number 10. The government will no doubt insist everything is perfectly proper and above board, which is exactly what governments say right before the paperwork gets interesting.

@andyburnham's govt is breaking the law now. Ofcom report findings on the [now failed] bid for The Telegraph by RedBird IMI (a UAE investment vehicle) were handed to the govt in March 2024. The Culture Secretary is required by law to make the findings public but Nandy refused.
this lot are up to their necks in it - TLDR Nandy suppressing a report (and ignoring FOI requests) involving the same guy behind Man City trying to buy large parts of UK press. archive.ph/2026.10.05-150915…
