@RBKC would rather spend thousands on baseless court cases than listen to residents. Complaint's about the millions wasted on our failed refurbishment ignored. Nearly 10 and years nothing has changed. @mhclg @AngelaRayner @josephpowell
After the Grenfell Tower fire, the Tenant Management Organisation (TMO) which was responsible for disastrous decisions that led to the fire and the death of 72 of its tenants, was disbanded by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea @RBKC. Lancaster West Estate where Grenfell stood, was promised a new management culture and a 21st century estate and massive refurbishment after decades of neglect. As the estate’s long-promised refurbishment proceeded, huge delays and ballooning costs and appalling mismanagement was being questioned by the beleagured residents on this estate. They began to organise and push back and demand answers, records and transparency of accounts and decisionmaking. The Council's response? Take a Lancaster West Estate resident who had been raising legitimate concerns about the delayed and vastly over-budget refurbishment and decisionmaking transparency to court. Yesterday, RBKC dropped its case against that resident, who was represented by the formidable Imran Khan & Partners. Who authorised this legal action? How much public money was wasted on this vexatious action? And why subject residents, already failed so catastrophically, to further distress for exercising their right to legitimate question and challenge? Before Grenfell, the TMO branded residents who challenged the tower’s disastrous refurbishment “rebel residents.” The Grenfell tower Inquiry heavily criticised the TMO for its relationship with its residents and the management of the disastrous refurbishment project. Nine years and 72 deaths later, its replacement doesn't call them rebels RBKC takes them to court — with the chilling effect of discouraging legitimate questions, criticism and dissent. The Lancaster West Estate residents' profound thanks to Imran Khan & Partners who stood shoulder to shoulder with residents on this important victory for the people on this estate. @RBKC @mhclg @BigIssue @MetroUK @LWWalkwaysRA @LancasterVoices @LANCASTERWESTU1 @AngelaRayner ikandp.co.uk/post/withdrawal…

I welcome today’s news that the investigation into the Grenfell Tower fire remains on track, with the Metropolitan Police having now handed over their investigation to the Crown Prosecution Service. Bereaved, families and survivors have waited far too long for justice, and we must see criminal accountability. My position remains clear that we must do everything in our power to ensure that justice is delivered as swiftly as possible. I will continue working with government ministers to ensure everything is done to avoid any further delays. As we approach the tenth anniversary, justice and accountability must remain a priority for policy makers and society as a whole. Bereaved, families and survivors have already waited an agonising nine years for justice, and I will continue to ensure that Truth, Justice and Change is achieved.

This is a huge milestone, laying bare what survivors and the bereaved have been saying for 9 years: Grenfell was no tragedy, it was corporate manslaughter. It should never have taken so long to get to this point — but we will never, ever give up in our fight for justice.

The Metropolitan police has passed charging files to the CPS within the timeframe they said they would. We thank them for their service. But the entire process, and our rightful expectation for justice of the manslaughter of 72 of our kin, and the devastation to the community immediately around Grenfell Tower, and the repercussions that we are still dealing with, was delayed, derailed and denied by the Tory Government of the day with Theresa May the Prime Minister who took the singular and unprecedented decision to put the Inquiry process before the criminal investigation. THAT single fact has not only cost us our justice, but it has cost the taxpayer over half a billion pounds, and created a multi million pound Grenfell Injustice industry that continues to monetize the disaster that took the lives of our parents, partners, children, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren. And they want us to trust the process? We are asking this government to give us the transparency we need. Open the files. Now that would be justice. @andyburnham @AngelaRayner 'Process is not Truth, nor justice. Expenditure is not Accountability.'

Police said they were asking the CPS to consider charges including corporate manslaughter, gross negligence manslaughter, health and safety offences, fraud, and misconduct in public office.

Residents have been raising this for years. Nine years after the Grenfell Tower fire, the Walkways blocks are still relying on a “temporary” boiler system. Temporary does not mean nearly a decade later. In this heatwave, the communal heating is blasting constantly. Then in winter, the system fails when people actually need heating. It's almost like deliberate torture for this beleagured community. This is what happens when the same Council at the heart of the incompetence and failings responsible for 72 deaths of its residents, is left in charge in the aftermath and recovery of the traumatised victims and community, despite being central to the largest homicide investigation in Met Police history, with no oversight, or scrutiny or accountability, by the same TOry Government that protected their Tory jewel in the Crown, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. And the change of government? Nothing changed. The same systems, the same failures, the same lack of accountability. Residents are deliberately shut out while the Council continues to control every part of life on the estate and in the area— including who represents residents and who sits on committees, who the 'official voices' are, which the Council has chosen and groomed and rewards. The residents aren't allowed to even have a foodbank on their estate on their own communal premises. As tenants say: “It’s like Alcatraz around here.” @MHCLG @SteveReedMP @SamanthaDixonMP @lancasterale Meanwhile the Council say they've spent £182million on a refurbishment that has still not delivered any tangible difference, no boiler, no windows, nothing changed, and they're asking for another £100million. Somebody needs to come down here, pay attention and put an end to this total catastrophe and fiasco. ANd when residents speak up or try to organise themselves, they are targeted and sidelined. What the Council are being allowed to do and getting away with is inhumane after such a terrible tragedy that impacted this Estate. INHUMANE.
The communal heating in the Walkways blocks is still on at full blast @RBKC . Many vulnerable and elderly residents are suffering unbearable temperatures in this heatwave. We are still suffering with a temporary boiler 9 years on. Actions not words

The heat in the walkway flats are intolerable, Why are we seemingly deprived of the agency to manually modulate our heating. @rbkc
