When the World Jewish Congress was established in Geneva in 1936, its founders faced a world in which the Jewish people had no voice. They understood, with terrible clarity, that Jews everywhere needed to stand together, and that someone had to speak for them in the international halls of power. That is the mission and mandate that we continue to carry forward as WJC turns 90 this month. ⚬ From our diplomacy at the United Nations, UNESCO, and the European Union; ⚬ Our programs to confront antisemitism, protect Jewish communities, and hold governments accountable for the safety and security of their Jewish citizens and institutions; ⚬ Our pioneering work to ensure Holocaust remembrance and education, coupled with the ongoing fight against Holocaust denial and distortion; ⚬ And our investment in supporting passionate young Jewish leaders.

This week marks 9️⃣0️⃣ years since the founding of the World Jewish Congress in Geneva. On the 8th of August 1936, Jewish leaders from around the globe came together to form a body that would serve as the permanent diplomatic address, or foreign ministry, of the Jewish people on the international stage at a dire moment in history. The institution born that day continues to endure - and with it the promise that the Jewish people will never again be voiceless or dependent on others to speak on their behalf. It is imperative that international organizations know the full extent of the crimes of October 7. Through our Geneva Office, WJC was proud to facilitate a meeting between @Dabokunda, the @UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights (left), and Dr. @CochavElkayam (right), the head of the Civil Commission on October 7 Crimes Against Women and Children.

I addressed the @UN_HRC for @WorldJewishCong on the full and equal participation in sports for women and girls and stress the reality for many female Jewish athletes who face pervasive gender bias intersecting with targeted, vitriolic antisemitism and religious exclusion.

Grateful to City of Leipzig, who together with the German Federal Agency for Civic Education and the German Southeast Europe Association, invited me to speak at the opening session of the conference “The World Is Within Us: Jewish Life Between Thessaloniki, Sofia, and Skopje.”
