A 49-year-old Hasidic man was mobilized in Ukraine while returning from Uman to Israel Yonatan Karlinski-Mashek had traveled to Uman for Rosh Hashanah and presented an Israeli passport at the border on his way back. However, during the checks, authorities discovered that he had also retained Ukrainian citizenship. He was then taken off the bus and sent to the Odesa region to undergo the mobilization procedure. The Jerusalem Post reported the case, while the Israeli Embassy confirmed that he had been detained. According to media reports, Karlinski-Mashek is currently in the Odesa region and is awaiting assignment as a doctor to a unit in the Kharkiv area. His family tried to secure his release, but without success. He was given a prayer book and provided with kosher food.

Al-Nablus University in the West Bank sets up an exhibition celebrating the 9 August bombing of a Sbarro restaurant in Israel, in which 16 civilians were killed. The Palestinian Authority makes the effort to build a mock Sbarro storefront and include props of mutilated body parts, to trumpet the perceived success of Palestinian resistance against Israel. Visitors are required to walk over Israeli and American flags to enter and leave the exhibition.

Sri Lankan Tamil migrant worker Sivarasa Anojan has been sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia over a Facebook comment deemed insulting to Islam and the Prophet Muhammad. The case began after a video circulated in Sri Lanka showing a Muslim man kicking a stray dog named Subramaniam that had accompanied Hindu pilgrims. Anojan posted a Facebook comment during the dispute that was subsequently reported to Saudi authorities. Anojan deleted the comment within minutes and later publicly apologized, but screenshots had already circulated. The original punishment was already extraordinary: five years in prison, a fine of 3 million Saudi Riyals, roughly $800,000, confiscation of the device used and closure of the social-media account. His family then pursued an appeal, hoping to reduce the punishment. Instead, the appellate proceedings resulted in a death sentence.
