Next week Denver City Council’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will vote to send a Proclamation declaring Denver’s opposition to Amendment 82. Why is Denver opposed? If A82 passes, Denver will NOT be able to ban natural gas. Or as they put it: “WHEREAS, Amendment 82 would restrict the ability of the City and County of Denver to adopt and enforce building codes and to determine locally-appropriate provisions regarding sustainability and energy-management practices; and” Do read the entire thing. Remember January 2021? On his very first day in office, Joe Biden canceled the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline. Thousands of jobs gone with the stroke of a pen, and Democrats cheered like their team had just won the Super Bowl. That wasn't a one-off. It was a mindset. For years, the left treated cheap gas as a problem to be solved, not a blessing. Back in 2008, Obama's future Energy Secretary Steven Chu said America needed to figure out how to push gas prices up to European levels. When prices topped $5 a gallon in 2022, Biden called it part of an "incredible transition." His Transportation Secretary told struggling families the answer was an electric car. They weren't trying to fix high gas prices. They were counting on them. The plan was simple. Make driving your truck painful enough, and eventually you'll give up and buy the electric car they want you to drive. Now fast forward to 2026. The conflict with Iran sent pump prices soaring, from under $3 a gallon in February to a record above $4.50 in May. And suddenly, the same Democrats who spent four years calling high gas prices the cost of progress are outraged. Now it's a crisis. Now they care about working families. Now they want answers. Funny how that works. Nobody likes paying more at the pump. But there's a big difference between a spike driven by a war overseas and a deliberate strategy to make energy more expensive at home. One is a problem you fix. The other is a policy they chose. Democrats were never against high gas prices. They're only against high gas prices when a Republican is in the White House. On Wednesday Zelensky ended the three-day pause on striking Russian oil refineries and said the attacks would resume. “The block is out. We’re done,” he said. Ukraine has already hit the Ryazan refinery again. That same day Zelensky also falsely accused Musk of limiting Starshield, the military version of Starlink that Ukraine uses to guide drone and missile strikes. It turned out the U.S. government had put the limits in place. Musk pointed that out immediately. Trump announced an energy ceasefire on Sunday. Ukraine paused its refinery strikes for a few days. Russia never confirmed the truce and kept hitting Ukrainian energy sites. Zelensky used that as the reason to resume attacks. He’s treating the war as something that continues until he decides otherwise. Musk has said the same thing multiple times this week about Zelensky’s unwillingness to meaningfully pursue peace. Zelensky has spent years with American money and weapons while rejecting deals that would stop the fighting. Elections have been off the table under martial law the entire time. The people of Ukraine need to be able to decide their own fate. Let them vote. If they want to keep Zelensky, they can elect him. My guess is they want someone different, someone who isn’t obsessed with war. To be clear, both Russia and Ukraine are at fault for keeping the war going. Both need to be condemned and the U.S. needs to use whatever sanctions possible to apply pressure for peace. The U.S. has spent enough. Cut the funding to Ukraine and the pressure for a real end starts immediately. Zelensky will keep the war going as long as the checks clear. America doesn’t need to keep writing them.

On August 13, two men broke into the locked first-floor area of an apartment complex in Governors Park, cut the locks on two e-bikes, and stole them. One belonged to a resident who relied on it as their only form of transportation. A vagrant later photographed in the area was seen with what appears to be one of the stolen bikes. Days afterward, the resident spotted him, waited across the street for three hours, and called DPD. Officers never arrived. They called back roughly eight hours later saying they were “in the neighborhood.” When the resident asked a detective how to get even a basic response so the man could be arrested, the detective said the department is short-staffed and overworked. But don’t worry, Denver. Mayor #MethCampMike says DPD is fully staffed 🙄 The e-bike was listed for sale on Craigslist in Aurora. It has still not been recovered. Property crime like this has real consequences.
