hand off your back-office to a tech-enabled team that works like a single, impossibly capable employee

I feel like I’m being gaslighted by X because I’ve been using Instinct and Muse daily for the past few weeks and instinct is better on every conceivable dimension. Am I missing something?

Something I shared with my team this week — I’ve been thinking a lot about how professional service providers can come across as `us vs client` or `us x client`. Said differently, we can come across as a referee or a teammate. We should always endeavor to be the latter. A common lawyer trope is rolling our eyes and saying “they have know idea what they’re doing” or “they’re so unsophisticated.” Condescension is rampant among lawyers. I dunno about you but I certainly don’t know the first thing about running their businesses, so I can’t expect them to know much about mine. Let’s always strive to talk with our clients rather than talk down to them. Let’s work with them rather than admonish them. Let’s be a trusted partner rather than a hall monitor.

gl to the lawyers who get to write Anthropic’s S-1
Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.

We've gone from a free Slack community with a handful of lawyers to a premium platform with 500+ cult members... I mean, paying subscribers. Along the way, HeyCounsel became a lot more than most people realize. So we rebuilt our website to better explain what this thing actually is. Go check it out. And if you still don't get it, tell me why. We're always looking to improve around here.

Ah, yes. The classic 6.2-hour NDA review.
These numbers should scare you. A human reviews an NDA in 6.2 hours for $2,480. AI does it in 11 seconds for 3 cents. contract redline, 35,000x cheaper. patent search, 45,000x. same quality, passes adversarial review. Here's what that actually means, and it's bigger than "AI is cheap." For decades every company checked a sample and trusted the rest. not from laziness, from math. a human reviewing every contract, every invoice, every line was never affordable. so you spot-checked and hoped. These numbers just killed that math. when review costs three cents instead of thousands, "we could only check some of it" stops being a reason. Freehand is the first company to build an entire product on that collapse, reading 100% of a company's invoices instead of a fraction, catching the overcharges and duplicates that always hid in the sample nobody had time to read. already live at Meta, Apple and J&J. The table is scary because it's cheaper. the real story is that sampling, the way business has run forever, just stopped making sense.

.@ericries explains why former Costco CEO Jim Sinegal refused to raise the price of everything in the store by $.03, despite the fact that Costco knew it wouldn't decrease sales, and would increase their net income by 50%: "He says, 'It's like the business equivalent of taking heroin. You do it once, and then you got to do it again, and again, and again. Next thing you know, you're not the low-price leader.'" "You can get away with screwing people over. You always do it, no matter what. You raise margins. Margins are a source of strength." "But Costco is built on a very different philosophy, which is that margins can be a source of weakness. @JeffBezos understood it. He used to always say, 'Your margin is my opportunity.'" "When you're making too much money, when you are being too extractive, you're actually harming your competitive position in the long run." From his appearance on the show in May.

Alpha School made a groundbreaking change to how we teach kids academics that every school should copy They started A/B testing every piece of learning material to give kids the most effective materials for every topic To accomplish this, they needed to divorce mastery tracking from curriculum. They needed to build a "routing" layer that has independent diagnostics/assessment in order to be able to run these A/B tests We're taking this one step farther at Recess; our product has a recursive/self-improving loop similar to how tiktok works. We're building an independent assessment and tracking layer, and then using classic ML-based-recommendation systems to show kids content for each node. This will automate the A/B tests and also allow different kids to get different types of content based on what will perform the best for them, vs. having one population-level curriculum that all kids follow. It's a bit like the difference between a cable television network and Youtube. Cable television creates a "program schedule". There's a set playlist of shows coming up and you follow that. Alpha is a GREAT network cable show; think HBO. Our approach looks more like HBO Max or Netflix or Youtube; we still syndicate all that amazing content, but every user is recommended slightly different content that makes sense for them. Not all users will see the same content; some will get content that no one else on the platform gets

Samir Menon @blintzbase and I are thrilled to announce Sail @sailresearchco ! We build infrastructure for long-horizon agents: inference served at unbeatable prices-per-token for open models, plus sandboxes designed to run for days, weeks, or longer. We've raised $80M, w/ our seed led by @Sequoia and series A led by @KleinerPerkins. We're using this capital to build the most efficient infrastructure for long-horizon agents. What makes agents so different? Unlike a human waiting at a keyboard (top priority: speed), agents need scale, reliability, and sustainable cost. Sail finds this efficiency everywhere in the stack: we carefully choose our chips, write custom inference engines, and run a global controller that fully utilizes every computer in our fleet. Tight integration from silicon to API lets Sail open up the cost / latency frontier to our customers - the most patient agents can now access 10x more intelligence per dollar. We're excited to be working with great companies like @parallelweb, @detaildotdev,@Jackandjillai, and @quadrillion_ai to deploy long-horizon agents with trillions of tokens. Our team is thoughtful in our engineering craft and relentlessly ambitious in our pursuit of peak performance. We previously trained at companies like NVIDIA, OpenAI, Google, and so many trading firms. Now we're ready to do the work that will define our careers, in the most compute intensive market of all time. Welcome to the era of abundant intelligence. We can't wait to build with you!

We raised $40M, led by @sequoia and @a16z. The first wave of "AI for home services" was a pile of point solutions. More logins, more bills, more handoffs that broke on a customer's worst day. At Probook, we built the opposite. One system, built around dispatch, because dispatch is where a home services business actually lives or dies. The proof is in the outcomes we’ve already driven for customers: ➡️Summers Plumbing booked 2,542 jobs their first month, fully automated ➡️Anthony PHCE: +20% revenue per job, 50% leaner team ➡️Del-Air: Doubled productivity from 10 to 22 techs per dispatcher. 15k calls/month. We're just getting started.
