Sergey Brin stepping out of semi-retirement to personally urge DeepMind teams to move faster underscores just how high the stakes have become in the AI race.

My (outdated) personal experience in Google is that the culture is focused on correctness and safety. Never speed. When 80% of the revenue is from ads, then the culture outside of ads devolves into “don’t mess up” instead of “make something awesome”

I really don't understand how google isn't just throwing billions of dollars of compute at this and building a competitive model. I bet if you gave the local AI community access to their compute we'd have a rival to frontier within a week or two

He should tell them to keep going and that he has confidence in them. I hear it helps

is this the same google that hates christmas and passover and the consititution? they deceptively manipulated domestic election periods and advocated for the word salad no borders dr evil billionaires we don't even know? they demonstrated hostility to trad usa because they have the china and global dei reset religion? they hate merit: they have no moral clarity. their dei bubble and orwellian inner party fanaticism made them an unserious fringe brand. send them for therapy and tissues at The View.

Great move, here's my take
Google bringing Sergey deeper into Gemini while moving Demis away! Google thinks the problem is speed, not talent. DeepMind has the research pedigree & Google has the compute, TPU stack, distribution & billions of users. Now Brin is pushing teams to accelerate Gemini while DeepMind gets a more execution-focused structure. And with Gemini facing increasing criticism online, Google needs to switch from research mode to war mode.

Inspiring. I bet nobody at DeepMind thought about trying to catch up with the frontier.

When can we hear brin telling sundar he blundered the whole thing?

I mean Brin has approx 25.3% of Alphabet’s total voting power (as of the April 2026 proxy data, with only a negligible change after a small August 2026 share conversion). It's not like the current CEO is stupid enough to not let the founder deploy their magic. 😂

Now the gap between 3.1 pro and Opus is so much that catching up would look like moving-fast.

Is Gemini still text only? In five years, nobody will know how to type, maybe.

solving coding is fastest path to the frontier and it’s a data problem. it’s a kind of data deepmind doesn’t have. good luck

i think when a purely research-focused person is ceo, they naturally lean hard into AI alignment and safety. that’s why they shifted demis hassabis’s role. now sergey is free to take full risk and push as far as possible.
