Watch the movies while reading our newest. Great work from Jasmin Imran Alsous, with @NicolasRomeo17, Jonathan Jackson, and @frank_m_mason. Another great collaboration with Jörn Dunkel's group who provide the critical connection to balloons. @MITBiologypnas.org/content/118/10/e201…
I really like papers that try to "solve" problems or explain how things work but I also really really like papers that show that a problem is much more complicated or that Nature is messy. I think those papers are underrated & that their contribution to science is very important.
Pleased to share the publication of our paper showing the role of EGFR in coordinating morphogenetic movements in Developmental Cell. Congratulations @MITBiology postdoc, @natclarke8 for all your hard work!
Article: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3946…
These cell adhesion complexes serve as a scaffold to recruit actomyosin through patterned mechanical feedback. Thus, EGFR + mechanical pull recruits actomyosin. Work from @StreichanS demonstrated this patterned feedback and we showed that it is linked to EGFR.
Thus, we showed a relay system that doesn’t just result in a wave of the same shape change, but a trigger mechanism for one mode of morphogenetic change jump-starting another.
Online now: Postdoc Nat Clarke's @natclarke8 excellent work on a mechanism that coordinates tissue folding and axis extension. Great job and congratulations Nat!
IMO in career decisions, too many people optimize for what they think they’re entitled to when instead, opting into cool shit and proving themselves will often result in way better outcomes than they expected in the first place
Honored to be elected as a member! Thanks goes to all the lab members, collaborators and colleagues with whom I have had the pleasure to work with over the years!
Humbled, thrilled, anxious and overjoyed to share that the Campanale Lab will open @unlv in January 2025 where we will investigate the cellular mechanisms of how cells build tissues collectively. #newPI#prideinSTEM#Daretodream
THIS is what real multitasking and dedication looks like @MITBiology @MartinLabMIT ! PI Flipping flies, exercising and listening to music all at once, while Technician is away on honeymoon.
Much of science is finding ways to perform mundane tasks in a way that entertains you and serves other purposes as well. It took me ~ 10 miles of walking to flip the entire collection of flies.
Last day for @vishakha_v96. She was brave enough to join my brand new lab as the 1st student 6 yrs ago and has been a dream student for a PI. She is starting a new adventure as postdoc in the Weinstein lab at @NIH to study zebrafish/cavefish development. Wish her all the best!
I am incredibly excited and honored to be running for the Secretary position for the Society of Developmental Biology! If you are a member, I would appreciate your support and your vote. I'd love the opportunity to serve our community in this way. Thanks!! Plz RT!
