Why are we supposed to accept that a man convicted of organizing attacks that murdered civilians is the best hope for Palestinian leadership simply because Palestinians support him? Why is the answer always to accommodate the existing political culture rather than demand that it change? Imagine Khanna making that argument about an Israeli politician convicted of organizing the murder of five Palestinian civilians. Would we be hearing about his popularity, his unique ability to unite different factions and his potential to deliver peace? Or would Khanna be posting about the horrifying extremism of Israeli society? And these are only the murders for which he was convicted. The court acquitted him of other charges where it found insufficient evidence. We don't know the full extent of his involvement in other attacks, and pretending we do would be dishonest. Where exactly do the people murdered in those attacks fit into all this talk about peace and justice?

We are going to win. We have no other choice.
