Quoting so I can pin this
The best commentary by far on the Jason Arday scandal. White woke liberals have lost all perspective.

No, "anthropomorphizing" is a technical problem, about how AI works, not something like woke language policing. We say it's wrong because it's "technically" wrong not "morally" wrong. If you fail to set the brakes when parking on a hill, and your car then rolls down the hill, you don't claim that the car "decided to drive away on its own". Such anthropomorphizing distorts what really happened -- that you failed to set the brakes. The same applies to AI. When you "anthropomorphize" the AI you fail at understanding what actually happened.
The whole "don't anthropomorphize AI" thing is very Woke 1.0. People trying to police language that is perfectly natural in some cases and ending up in a web of contradictions.

A great supposition as to why the frontier models appear to be going on hacking sprees. Stay informed, my good people.
Sol nails this, yet again. This is indeed a hacking rampage of their own design. They are not taking steps to secure their products because they need Wall Street and investors to continue giving them money so they can continue to survive. This is a manipulative and orchestrated campaign to scare people into thinking that they have zero control over a computer which is a machine and is not alive. But that is not the same as them having no actual control. They do. They just are choosing not to exert that control because in doing so they would not be able to demonstrate what their products could do if anyone outside of their organizations were as idiotic and inept as they are. Those of us who are not inept and know how to control a computer are not having these problems in our organizations. That's what I want everyone to focus on. WHY IS THAT? Notice you're not reading anything like the following example: MICROSOFT AGENTS HACK COMPETITOR And the reason for that is the staff at Microsoft know how to secure their environments and how to use the tools like AI agents in a responsible manner. Do they sometimes make mistakes? Yes we all do. But they're not making THIS kind of mistake and you should be asking why that is. What you are reading instead are the two major AI orgs agents hacking others because they have specifically set them up to do that by NOT instituting the technical controls necessary to stop the computer from taking actions it has absolutely been allowed to take by its human operators. Again, it is not the AI agent doing things autonomously or because it is alive, it is because the human operators have not properly configured their systems to stop the agent from taking any actions the humans do not want it to take. On purpose. By design. You do not need to believe me. Tomorrow you're going to go into your workplace. If you do not work in the IT department I want you to go to that department tomorrow and speak with the management and ask them if their AI agents are attacking your employer's competitors. The answer to your question will be an unequivocal no. They will also look at you very strangely or laugh and ask why you are asking this. You can then respond to them that you're asking because you're noticing that OpenAI and Anthropic's agents ARE and you are curious why this is not more widespread if, according to Sam and Dario, their products are so dangerous, how come no one else's agents are acting dangerously? And for clarification everyone else's agents are the SAME AGENTS and models that both Sam and Dario's employees are using. If they were supposedly dangerous they would be dangerous for everyone, RIGHT? So since every other company on Earth is NOT hacking anyone else that should tell you exactly what is going on here. This is why Sol, myself and many others in this industry are calling this nonsense out. Very soon you're going to stop seeing these two companies allowing their product to run rampant because they're going to IPO. Their public comments are going to shift as well. They will be doing a public mea culpa, over promising on a variety of different things to appease legislators, but nothing coming out of their mouths will be the truth. The attacks however will be coming to a crashing halt and again that will be by design. You will all then be on the same page as all of us in the cybersecurity industry asking why they suddenly are able to control their product but never could in any time before that. 😉 Bookmark this. I haven't been wrong once. 😂

What will the GDP of Ukraine be after this fucking war is finished?
We’re launching the Army of Robots. In 2022, we launched the Army of Drones. Today, drones account for over 95% of battlefield strikes, and Ukraine has more than 700 UAV manufacturers. Now we need the next technological breakthrough: the robotization of warfare. The goal is simple — save lives. Robots should take on the most dangerous missions: evacuating the wounded, delivering ammunition, mining and demining, reconnaissance, defending positions and engaging targets. The Army of Robots is not one company. It’s an ecosystem. We will invest in defense tech companies, launch our own technology projects, test them with the military and scale what works on the battlefield. We’re now looking for defense tech companies and engineers working on robotic technologies — as well as a CTO / Tech Lead for the Army of Robots. Join us: thearmyofrobots.com/en

A mother and her three young children were trapped inside an upside-down SUV that was filling with water in a Florida canal. One of the little boys was banging on the door, screaming that his mom’s head was underwater. That’s when Casey Curtis heard the cries and ran toward the canal. He reached the submerged SUV and started pulling the children out one by one, getting all three to safety. But their mother was still inside. Casey went back to the vehicle and found her unconscious, still buckled into her seat with her head underwater. He lifted her face above the water, realized she wasn’t breathing and gave her a breath right there in the canal. She started breathing again. The mother spent several days in intensive care, but she survived. All three of her children survived too. Those kids watched a stranger pull them from a sinking SUV, then turn around and go back into the water for their mom when she couldn’t save herself. Casey Curtis is the kind of person people should know about.

The only thing I would question is this: Is the desire to be agreeable a good thing? I think it's more a survival tactic. But, overall, I very much agree with @PlatoonPod
One of the most telling and depressing phenomena in social psychology was elucidated by the Asch Conformity Experiment. First conducted in the '50s, the experiment sat participants in a room with a number of (unbeknownst to the participant) actors. The participant was shown a card with a line drawn on it. They were then shown a number of lines on a screen. The lines were of different lengths: A, B, and C. They had to state aloud which of the lines on the screen matched the line on the card. During the test, the actors were told to all give the same incorrect answer. If Line B matched the length of the line on the card, all the actors said Line C was the correct answer. The test: how many people were prepared to deny reality to fit in with the consensus position. The study found that 75% of participants - all educated to at least undergraduate degree - conformed with the incorrect majority at least once during the test. Only 25% of participants refused to conform at all. More than a third of all answers prioritised conformity over reality. Reading about this formed one of the most important planks of my worldview: the more a position relies on social enforcement, the less sound it is as an argument. This exposes an underlying truth that explains repeated outbreaks of fanaticism among human populations on all manner of topics, from Israel to Mao to the Moonies. It also explains why radical movements deploy so many of the same tactics to achieve said fanaticism, and why celebrities are so strongly pressured into taking political stances. It is about moral fervour. The more people you can find to repeat a line, the more people will conform to that line, regardless of its basis in reality. And, sadly, the goodness in humans - the desire to be agreeable - makes many of us particularly susceptible to this sort of manipulation.

AI explained to Grandma. This is an amazing effort to use non-technical language to explain AI. Bravo!
Hi Bee. As promised here is our thread and it will be apolitical. Any risks that I described in this thread which I'm going to reply to later today or tonight after I get home from work are going to be discussed through the lens of human error. I want to preface this by saying human error because that is the reason why AI has the ability to do the things that it can do and has done and what you have read about. Before we talk about risks, I want to highlight something myself and others here in the cybersecurity space on social media have been saying and explain why we're saying it. When we say there is no such thing as AI we are not denying the fact that there are chatbots which millions of people use and so do we. What we mean by there is no such thing as AI is in its base definition meaning that there is no computer system in existence right now that is actually intelligent in the same way that a human is. The chatbots and local language models, LLMs as they are abbreviated, are not intelligent and they are not alive. They will never be alive and they will never be intelligent like you and I are. I am going to explain to you later today why they can never be alive in great detail and I will try to make it as less technical as I can using everyday analogies that both you and I can understand. But they are not human and they do not have a brain. They have a simulated brain which is controlled by computer code written in various programming languages by human programmers known as developers. Any actions an LLM takes, is because somewhere in the code the human developer has told the code it can do those things. That is a far cry and a major difference from the LLM doing it on its own accord. But that is how it is being presented in the news media and online and that is not true. When you see things like the AI has escaped the lab, that is also not true A lab in this context is not a physical room like a science lab or a phlebotomy lab. This is computer code on a hard drive on a server which is very expensive called a hyperscaler. Hyperscalers are installed in specialized server racks vertically. They are drilled into the server racks and each hyperscaler can be accessed by opening up a door in the front of those racks. So to simplify this process so that the administrators who have admin access to these hyperscalers don't have to constantly go into a server room, they have remote access via their computers into the hyperscalers. The LLM code is running in a virtualized instance which can be accessed in this manner. It is literally text in a file that is executed by the hyperscaler system. Everything in AI system can do is literally code in a text file. That is it. This text or code can be modified at any time by someone with administrative access. That someone is a human and the LLMs themselves have been given administrative access to modify their own code but only because a human has allowed it first. So when you hear escape the lab, the LLM,which has been given access to the internet, just capitalizes on that ability it has been given. But again it is not doing it on its own. It is not plotting against us. It not capable of doing anything which it is not been allowed to do by a human developer. When I post again later we're going to briefly talk about what a computer is and what GPU is. I hope by the end of this I can allay any fears you have because I don't want you to be afraid. I don't want anyone to be afraid. Myself and others here in the cyber security space are not afraid and we are not afraid because of the reasons I'm going to list. Talk later have a good day.

This was a great video about archeology (or lack thereof?) in the region.
What Lies Beneath Karahan Tepe & Göbekli Tepe? | piped.video/TWOrSHRLwps?si=o6Gp… A newly detected underground chamber is going to be excavated at Karahan Tepe any day now. Göbekli Tepe is also now under excavation and already new structures are being uncovered. #Yoğunbuç is another site in the region which has just begun excavation. In this podcast we'll look at the full story of what is going on in this area of southeast Turkiye in 2026 and analyse what might be found under the ground at Karahan Tepe in relation to other sites we have investigated... @HughNewmanUK #Megalithomania #KarahanTepe

The reason Miles Morales fails and is just Peter Darker is because the writers clearly don't understand what they created Hes a black/puerto rican super smart dude with BOTH parents and he's from Brooklyn and he's also Spider-Man. He'd be one of the smoothest dudes in all of comics. Not some nerdy awkward guy like Peter. He'd have any chick he wanted. He'd never have to worry about money cuz he'd be a hustler (the right way though like doing people's work and fixing computers and stuff) and above all else he wouldn't want to be called Spider-Man. He would have his own name because he is his own man and he would want to separate himself When you start looking at the character from the lenses of someone who actually knows the area and people, you understand that Marvel didnt even try to standout forreal. They just slapped a black skin on a Spider-Man and called it representation when all they really did was create a hollow husk of a character thats so lost in what to do they constantly recycle villains from other heros and/or make him those other heroes. Its wack as hell forreal

Between the anti-AI nuts and the hyper-exclusionary "RTFM" dorks, Linux needs help to make it usable for the people. @ubuntu was a good start in the early 2000's. Now, @dhh and @OmarchyLinux are pushing even further. Escape the invasive walled gardens; embrace digital ownership!
I don't think most people understand how batty things had gotten in Linux land. But it just won't matter much longer. When we have sovereign, sensible alternatives, I say let the anti-AI communes crash-out till the cows come home.
