The Kickstarter didn’t fail to finish a Wild Arms game. It was never the size of one.
¥379 million in 2022 was for two proof-of-concept demos, on purpose. Split that and you’re around a million dollars a side before fees and rewards. That ships a vertical slice. It does not ship a current-gen world map, vehicles, gadget dungeons, and a new turn-order system on PS5, Xbox, and PC. Octopath-scale JRPGs sit in the tens of millions. That is the comparison people are skipping.
Digital Bros discontinued it in the FY to June 30, 2026 after they tried to revise the gameplay. That is a publisher deciding the remaining check was too big, not a studio that never built the thing.
March 2026 they already had the main scenario and core systems in a ROM. Backers funded the meeting that got them a publisher. The publisher is what walked.
