I don't think that people in the north quite appreciate what great stuff they get in the south. The difference in investment is excruciating. The south gets Crossrail and swanky stations and evermore lines to London, and commuters in the North have to travel on busses converted to trains, don't get high speed rail, and Leeds is the biggest urban area in Europe by far without mass rapid transit. The North-South divide is a choice, not an economic inevitability, and it's crippling England.
Some people are focused on the money but I'm just glad that Oxford, one of our nation's truly great cities, got that new bridge and with it an improved railway service. With now two routes to London due to recent investment and new trains, let's hope the city prospers.
