So yeah, there it is. How Germany and France combined overtook the UK on financial services economic output since the financial crisis. Per person, the sector still vastly higher output in the UK of course.

This means that output per job in Finance and Insurance (SIC Section K) in London has fallen and fallen and fallen. At a stretch we can call it productivity and by that measure, productivity in finance in London is the lowest it's been in two decades.

Opera isn't boring, but just as certain genres of techno music can only be enjoyed on ecstacy, opera can only be fully appreciated when adequately drunk
This is nice, but the truth is that traditional (pre-musical theatre) opera is very very boring. The best way to help people enjoy it would be to put on “the best of opera” nights that just do the highlight songs and drop the terrible 3-hour plots in between them.

A great thing about Oxford is that it's so small! If we invested the same big amount of money in much bigger places like Hull or Middlesbrough the investment would just be diluted away. Focusing on Oxford lets us target success and avoid jam spreading. It's called agglomeration!

I have enjoyed the replies saying that actually Oxford's new railway connection to London opened in 2016, so it's not really that recent. I suppose these things are all felt relatively.

This was the reply which I most genuinely enjoyed. I feel it captured some of the true chaotic sarcasm energy that I brought to the original.
I have no idea why you think it's a bad idea to shove even more money, but no housing, into Oxford, the least affordable city in the UK. Surely putting even more jobs and investment in a place where no one can live can only be sensible?
