Sure. Happy to. A very large majority of British air passengers that arrive by Heathrow by ground come from South East England. This makes it a regional concern at best. From the rest of the country competing airports and competing hubs exist and we should encourage competition.

I share the four photos I took from my recent visit to Leeds Bradford Airport. I am not one to talk down Leeds. But I remain of the opinion that connecting Leeds, Liverpool, and Sheffield to Manchester Airport as a proper Northern Hub would be preferable.

London's democracy says it doesn't need a new runway though. That's the problem. Every Mayor of London has opposed expanding Heathrow. Mayors of Madrid have consistently supported a new runway. We should really try and figure out why Madrid is different to London on this.

A great thing about Oxford is that it's so small! If we invested the same big amount of money in much bigger places like Hull or Middlesbrough the investment would just be diluted away. Focusing on Oxford lets us target success and avoid jam spreading. It's called agglomeration!

I missed the USA, so I went to a spot in Leeds with a brewery and a church, in big boxes, on a main road, with lots of new apartments going up. The beer was better, but the road is too congested to give the USA feel and I feel like in the USA there'd be proper fixed transit here.

As a bonus. I went to a bar after baseball in South Philadelphia. Very friendly. Asked the barlady if the smoking was, strictly, legal. And to my surprise she produced the licence. You can still smoke in some bars in Pennsylvania. Because free. Conditions and paperwork are huge.

Another example. Crossing a road. From Baltimore, Washington DC is just 35 miles. Philadelphia is just 75 miles. Yet you cross the road very differently in the three cities. Downtown Philadelphia has no walk signs, pedestrians rule. Washington DC, the law rules. Baltimore, WTF?!

As always, it's so important to actually go places. To go the 38 miles from Manchester to Leeds will take me 68 minutes. The same distance from similar sized Washington to Baltimore took me 30-40 minutes last week. Cheaper. In more comfort. On a big electric train. I took it.
