A better paradigm is that most secular stories are about acquiring and the Christian story is renunciation/repentance

It's almost as if it's too easy to trojan horse behind generally agreed upon universal goods even if those become collateral damage once the power grab scheme is uncovered like
sustainability
public health
counter terrorism
protecting children
etc.
I like the idea of people doing safety research.
I disagree with EAs on many things, but I find it to be a net positive that they (or anyone) does AI safety research.
That said, I believe it leaves us all less safe that the fact is today: you must be an EA to even get in the door at the frontier labs to do AI safety research.
It's just very curious how it's *always* an EA-tied group.
EAs that all think the same is dangerous enough, but the real threat here is all the tangled conflicts of interest that exist in this one group that has a monopoly on frontier safety while simultaneously also being friends, coworkers, shared investors, and former sex partners. Being "in" this group, going to the parties...etc, means you have a lot to lose if you ever go against the grain, so you wind up with group-think.
It's not "brave" to whistleblow if the position you land in is still working with all your buddies, living in the same location, going to all the same parties, and doing the same job.
It's just such an obvious conflict of interest to me, and inherently unsafe.
