Having tactically traded through the 1998 Russian crisis and LTCM collapse, the dot-com bubble and crash, the 2007–09 financial crisis, the COVID shock, and everything since—I can’t stress this enough: The best countertrend setups don’t come from just buying dips. They come after failed breakdowns or clear bullish divergences. Without those signals, you’re simply buying weakness and hoping for a bounce.

I've never seen a more confusing market. TTM valuations are unusually high but growth expectations are also so extreme that we've got the lowest PEG ratio in thirty years. I don't know.
Lowest PEG Ratio in 30Y+ but it's apparently 1929

Seems like a great example of Mark Spitznagel’s forest fire analogy. There is a lot of brush in the forest (high valuations), which doesn’t necessarily mean there will be a fire (if growth expectations and ROI on AI spend are met), but if there is a spark of any kind, the fire is likely to be large.

Replying to @Greenbackd
I don’t read it as the S&P 500 is cheap, but as: earnings-growth expectations have become extraordinary.

Washed-out market breadth is BULLISH short-term, NOT bearish, it's a countertrend signal. After most stocks have already trended down, those who wanted to sell have probably sold, so we start looking for reversal.

Stupid shit like this is why people lose money in the rates market. Or any market for that matter.
Look at this wild Mother of All Trendlines (MOAT) here on the $TLT total return (adjusted). Now or never here...

CHOOSIN' TEXAS: Schwab to dual list on the new Texas stock exchange, which has also drawn a few ETFs with more to come I'm sure.. (now the song is stuck in my head, but that's ok, I really like it, even if it isn't my preferred genre)

If you are 100% long only stocks. Consider selling 10% of those stocks and buying 10% LTPZ (TIPS) and 10% TLT Nominal bonds with 10% overall leverage. The case for bonds in your portfolio is improving not getting worse despite the nonsense you read here. substack.com/@dampedspring/n…

Texas—Tennessee was the highest rated noon game on ESPN/ABC in a decade. The SEC going to nine conference games is crushing all college football competition.

America needs more energy, and Tennessee is ready to lead the way. The Clinch River project will deliver reliable, affordable power while strengthening our energy security and keeping Tennessee at the forefront of nuclear innovation. This has been years in the making, and thanks to strong local, state, and federal leadership, Tennessee is where America’s nuclear future is being built.

The super running shoe arms race is out of control. Two runners that broke 2-hour marathon mark wore the Adidas Adizero Pro Evo 3. Now, Adidas has made a running shoe with gear shifts…that change the foam from stiff to soft. Controlled by a runner’s watch for adjustments based on terrain or fatigue. Stiff bounces more for sprints while soft for cruising speeds. *** OP link: instagram.com/reel/Ddzvb5YsD…

I rotate, not allocate — based on the odds of asymmetric risk/reward. If I were a passive stocks-and-bonds investor, fully invested all the time, I’d hit rebalance right now.

Wow. 290 on reals. 1.9 standard deviations, almost at the statistically significant 2-sigma. Ditto with nominals.
