I am the GRA representative referred to in yesterday’s statement. I welcome the withdrawal of the potential misconduct allegation, but I am bitterly disappointed that An Garda Síochána pursued it in the first place. I have spoken on many issues affecting members in the past. Elected representatives must be able to speak for members without fear that doing so will lead to misconduct proceedings. I will not be making any further comment on the matter.

Thanks PM Carney. Rest assured… the vast majority of Americans will never refer to Lake Ontario as “Lake America.” Just like we will never call the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America.” There are still many of us who think of Canadians as our great friends. 🇺🇸🇨🇦
The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”. The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms. Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.

Its incredible that the Government have allowed the previous public sector pay deal to expire without making any serious attempts to agree a new one. Lots of ballots due from the various unions re the next steps. Can't say they weren't warned.
The Prison Officers Association (POA) said a national poll of its members has shown overwhelming support for industrial action, up to and including strike action, if the Government does not set out a clear and credible approach to aligning pay and living standards, at the start of the next round of public sector pay talks rte.ie/news/ireland/2026/082…

We should also be asking why failing to stop for police is only a summary offence and how a collision during a pursuit can be blamed on a police officer not the suspect who failed to stop in the first place…🤦🏼‍♂️

I wish to express my sincerest condolences to our colleagues in @ClevelandPolice to the bereaved families and friends of the officers who died in this devastating incident. This tragedy again highlights the grave dangers police officers face when confronted with reckless criminality and wrong-way driving. It must strengthen our resolve to support policing, hold offenders fully accountable and ensure public safety is at the centre of criminal-justice policy. Right now, thats not where we are.
