3rd year Autobody apprentice Anika Jones and Chair of the Autobody program, Cecile Bukmeier, are headed to Shanghai to represent Team Canada in Car Painting at @WorldSkills. With more than 1,400 competitors from 90 countries across 64 skill competitions, this is one of the largest gatherings of talent every two years. Anika will have her parents travelling alongside her, cheering her on as she competes against 23 other car painters from participating nations. Cecile will also represent NAIT on the world stage as the Team Canada WorldSkills Expert in the same competition. She has also worked alongside Anika for the last two years, helping her prepare for this competition. Good luck, Anika! The shovels are in the dirt! Today marks the start of construction on the Advanced Skills Centre, a 625,000-square-foot investment in the future of skilled trades and technology education in Alberta. As the largest capital project in NAIT's history, the Advanced Skills Centre will create modern labs, classrooms, and workspaces designed to support the next generation of talent across construction, energy, manufacturing and transportation programs. This fall, we welcome a new men's hockey head coach, bring a major @ACAC_Sport cross-country race back to NAIT, and host the @CCAAsportACSC men's soccer national championship. It's been 10 years since the Feltham Centre (CAT) building opened its doors to the public! From a blank canvas to one of our most vibrant spaces on campus. Fast facts about CAT: - 45 labs and advanced simulation environments, including the NAIT Centre for Advanced Medical Simulation - the @NAITMawjiCentre - 57 classrooms - a 135-seat lecture theatre - over 1,065 sq. m. (11,500 sq. ft.) of student seating, including 11 student lounges, and tutoring and meeting rooms - a computer commons with desktop computers for student use

Welcome to a new school year at NAIT. Whether you’re returning to campus or joining us for the first time, I’m glad you’re a part of our community. This is one of my favourite times of the year. The hallways fill up, classes begin, new friendships start and campus has new life. I know the start of a year can feel exciting, overwhelming or maybe a bit of both. There's a lot ahead of us. This year, there will be lot of change around campus. We’re building the Advanced Skills Centre, the largest expansion in NAIT’s history, and reimagining the South Lobby as a new student services hub. We’re also launching the Student Experience Action Plan and a new Academic Advising model to help support students' education, career planning and campus experience. The South Lobby is becoming a future-focused hub for student support. A $12 million renovation project is underway to transform the space into a centralized “one-stop shop” where students can access key services, including counselling, career advising, learning services and peer support, in a more seamless and accessible way. Designed with flexibility in mind, the new South Lobby will adapt to evolving student needs and an expanding student body while creating opportunities for connection, community and collaboration at the heart of campus. Construction is scheduled for completion in fall 2028. What would inspire someone to cycle 30,000 kilometres across two continents? Leanna Carriere (Personal Fitness Trainer '17), an entrepreneur, former Team Canada pole vaulter and Canada's first female decathlete, alongside her partner, Dr. Timm Döbert, is embarking on Wings of Survival: a nine-month journey from northern Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, tracing the migratory path of the Hudsonian Whimbrel to raise awareness about bird conservation and habitat protection. The expedition will take them through 15 countries and average roughly 120 kilometres per day.
